The rest of my first second day of high school all over again, was rather boring. After the whole bullying incident nothing much happened. Except her.
She happened.
I saw her again, during lunch. She was sitting three tables away, with her group of friends. A slightly red curly haired girl sat beside her and a lean guy on her other side. Two more people sat in front of them but I couldn't see their faces. I didn't want to either. I just wanted to see her.
God, I sound like a creep.
Nathan introduced me to a couple of his friends. Well more than a dozen actually. I had no idea my best friends so damn social here. We were sitting at a table that consisted solely of guys. There were two girls, who were dating two of the basketball players. I guess I was at the jock table, but then why was Nathan and a couple of more none jock people seated here?
"So you're the new guy huh?" A blonde haired guy had said, he sat in front of me. I took my eyes off Seara, unwillingly and turn to him. Isn't it a bit obvious that I'm the new guy? I nod.
"He doesn't talk much does he Nathan?"
Nathan laughs and I say "I don't have much to say" with a tight smile.
"So do you play any kind of sport?" He asked. All the other guys were then staring at us, just great.
"Umm not ..." I'm interrupted by Nathan.
"He's incredible at basketball" he said eagerly. Wow, he sounder like a mom right now. He's never complimented me about that before, even though he always loses.
"You should join the team then, trials are tomorrow, I can talk to couch about you" Lan said.
"No it's alright, I'm not that good anyway. " which was a lie. I was strictly told not to be involved in sports. I was hot headed, that's an understatement but I would get too aggressive while playing. Even when I was younger I'd get too fierce on court during junior league. The coach thought it was best if I didn't play in a team.
"You could still try tomorrow? We could use another good player" Lan said. The other three guys in jock jackets nod in agreement.
Somehow, I don't know why, my eyes keep finding her table again and again. It's starting to piss me off. The guy next to her says something, leaning a little towards her face. For a second I think he's going to kiss her, but he doesn't. She smiles at him, fondly. His stare lingers at her but she isn't looking at him anymore. The guys eyes light up everytime she speaks, or looks at him. But hers don't. She looks, different. Her smiles are fond but they don't seem real. It's like a rehearsed smile, that you perfect over the years. The kind you give at a funeral. I'd know because I've smiled like that all my life.
"Will, yo Will?" Nathan shakes me and I get out of my trance, " sorry, I'll pass, maybe I'll try out for the team next year." All of them started laughing at my reply.
"Dude he asked you about Gregory High, we stopped taking about basketball ten minutes ago" said Nathan, oh.
"Sorry I kinda spaced out, Gregory was alright" again, a lie. Gregory High sucked. It was the very epitome of sucking, a typical high school in every fucking way possible. Unlike Carmicheal, non jocks wouldn't even dream of sitting at the jock table. Carmicheal seemed friendlier. And even the bullying wasn't that serious here. Back at Gregory high, guys like Connor Ridgeback would almost kill the students. Locking them in school, nafter hours was their first act. God, I hated Connor Ridgeback. Everything changed after I fought him, if only he hadn't provoked me it wouldn't have come to this. Maybe shifting schools was for the better, there's no Seara Glass back at Gregory High.
