A Troubled Past

Mashiho's POV

Over the years, I've amassed a large group of friends. So when we went to lunch, as always we all squeezed into one table. I made extra room so Junkyu could join us.

I'm not normally an outgoing person, so when I called him over, Huijin, who wasn't in the same morning class as me, gave me a puzzled look. "Guys, this is Junkyu." I introduced, sliding over.

We talked and joked like normal, and I tried to include the taller boy as much as possible, asking him questions about his life.Soon, lunch was over, and we separated to our classes.

(4 hour time skip)

We meet in the courtyard after class, talking and trying to study, which was a bit counterproductive. Eventually, this effort is abandoned, and we just play around.

Everyone started heading back to their building at around 7, as lights out was at 9. I wasn't in a hurry, so Junkyu and I continued to talk after everyone else left.

As we walked along the well manicured paths, he told me about how he was sent here because his mother couldn't support him and his four younger brothers. He talked about his father who left the family when he was a kid.

I felt a very strong attraction to this lonely boy. I wanted to hold him and protect him from the troubles of his past. I had never felt this about anyone before.

When he looked at me, I could tell he was greatful, but I also saw sorrow and pain in his gaze. I wanted so much to comfort him and make him smile.
