October 4, 2010 was a tense day in the New York Institute. Scratch that , the entire week was tense because A) The Clave informed everyone one week prior that " a special important and dangerous mission " will be assigned to the bests of the institute. And B) Alcyone Gilbert and Alec Lightwood broke up.
Alcyone Gilbert and Alec Lightwood broke up.
These seven words in the same sentence seemed unreal. The IT couple of the entire Shadow world broke up. What both of them had for each other was passionate and strong and it was something that one would call epic love.
It was not that they fell out of love , they still loved each other dearly but he fell for another.

They all respected the downworlder as he helped them countless times in many ways but still the idea of Alec Lightwood and Alcyone Gilbert breaking up did not seem natural.
Alec Lightwood, the first born in the Lightwood family, the head of the New York Institute, the Archer, was a natural born leader. He was a Shadowhunter who would abide by rules and law as 'The law is hard but it is the law. '
And then there was Alcyone Gilbert.
Alcyone Gilbert or as she preferred to be called Ally, was a Petrova Doppelganger who at the mere age of 6 drank from The Mortal Cup by being manipulated by Valentine (not that she knew).Then was experimented at 16 by the Clave to unlock all the Earth magic she had along with her ancestors who were both Traveler witches and normal witches. She became an unique Shadowhunter plus Siphon witch and was the best huntress of all the time. She had a beautiful and cunning mind , she manipulated , loved chaos , flirted , and was highly alluring and charming.
Both of them fit together as perfect puzzle pieces.
And if you said someone three years ago that they will break up, they would most probably laugh at you and ask if you are alright.
It was exactly one week since their breakup, and Ally didn't come out of her room ever since and Alec was brooding and his eyes bloodshot swollen red ever since.
It was a shock to everyone that their calm and collected head of the institute had disheveled hair, swollen puffy eyes and unorganized dress code.
But they were more worried about Ally, she was the sunshine of the institute who would make everyone's day better with her sarcastic and flirty comments . It was no secret that Ally had suffered loss in the greatest amount in these past 3 years. First, her parents died in an accident, then she found out there was no Uncle Val, but a Valentine Morgenstern , then she found out that her parents were not her real parents and guess who her biological dad was? Her Uncle John. Then came in another shock just 13 days ago that her Aunt Jenna who was the legal guardian of her and her siblings, Elena and Jeremy along with her Uncle/Father John died in an accident.
