*After practice, the members returned back to their dorms and shared a few beers together to celebrate Yuta's birthday*

8:04pm

About 4 beers in, Jaehyun brought out the cake which they had prepared earlier and began singing "saengil chukga habnida....". In typical NCT style, the members all harmonised on the last notes of the song while Yuta sat all curled up on his chair embarrassed but excited. Mark sat next to Yuta as he blew out the candles and watched him almost mesmerised. 'How can someone look so effortlessly good while blowing out some candles?' he asked himself and again felt his cheeks glow. He began to associate this feeling with Yuta and immediately felt a huge grin creep across his face. The scent of the flame being blown out filled Mark's nose as the smoke danced in patterns through the air.

"What did you wish for?" Taeil asked him quietly

"I wished for us to be successful,, especially Mark"

Yuta locked eye contact with Marks bewildered expression and smiled at him. He grabbed Marks hand and held it for almost the rest of the evening until Jungwoo Jaehyun and Taeil decided to go to sleep since they all had a schedule the next day.

Yuta noticed he was still holding onto Mark's hands and let go shyly laughing

"D-did you have a good birthday?" Mark asked in small voice as he slowly looked up into Yuta's eyes. His eyes were warm and welcoming, maybe just because of the alcohol but all the same beautiful. Yuta replied

"Even better now that you are here"

Just with these words Mark felt his heart moving backwards and forwards within his chest and the sudden urge to hug him and never let go. Never before in his life had he felt such a strong connection with someone and he definitely didn't expect it from one of his fellow band members. Before Mark could even move himself, he felt Yuta's chin sitting on his shoulder. His longing brown eyes stared wistfully into his cheeks. Yuta's face was only centimetres away from Mark's face so Mark could feel him breathing sweetly onto his neck. Mark tried to avoid making eye contact because he knew that as soon as he looked at Yuta's face he wouldn't be able to take his eyes off of him. Yuta, however, continued to stare at Mark until Mark turned his head and looked back at him. Since Mark wouldn't move, Yuta had to result to more extreme measures. He put his hand on Marks thigh and began rubbing it slowly up and down, gradually making his way closer to his pelvis. Mark tried to ignore his hands but they started moving closer to his body until he couldn't take anymore. Mark put his hand on top of Yuta's before he got any further. Mark turned his head and made eye contact with Yuta's teasing eyes. At this moment, it felt as though time had stopped. The whole world paused as these two 'friends' discovered a whole new side of their relationship which both of them had imagined before, but never had the initiative to put it into action. Yuta stopped moving his thumb and smiled as Mark's gaze met his own. Both of them, still only centimetres apart and holding hands on Mark's thigh had their eyes glued to each other.

Mark's thoughts were racing back forth before making eye contact with Yuta but as soon as they met it felt as though all of his worries left him and only left behind one thought - Yuta.

"What do you want?" Mark asked into Yuta's face

"You"

Mark felt his stomach sink and felt a butterflies form. The feeling he would only usually get from going on stage or when he auditioned to be an idol.

"M-me?"

Yuta nodded and warmed his face up into Mark's neck and drew pictures on his chest with his finger. Yuta felt so comfortable just sitting on his own with Mark without the other members and most importantly without cameras. Although he would still express his feeling for him openly on camera, he never felt like he was being sincere enough to Mark - he wanted to change that for once and really show Mark how much he meant to him.
