After walking over and standing near the basketball guy's for a while, the captain of the varsity team acknowledges me with a "What"? I reply with a "Can I jump into the game"? Of course everyone laughs at me knowing I probably suck, which they would be right, but I do notice the new boy didn't laugh. Instead, he came over to me and handed me the ball and says "You can be on my team. I'm Joey by the way". Of course a smile overtakes my face as I say "Nice to meet you, I'm Bella". I honestly didn't think it would go that smoothly so I ended up humiliating myself by asking what I was suppose to do next. Instead of Joey making fun of me like the whole varsity team did, he just smiles at me and says "Throw the ball in to me, I'll take care of you and help you out".
After spending majority of the game observing Joey and how well of a player he was, the bell rings meaning school was over for the day. Joey seemed nice, so maybe I actually would have a friend now. Maybe signing up for gym wasn't such a bad idea after all, even though I don't play any sports.
As I was walking to my car so I could get ready to go to dance, I notice Joey following behind me. I turn around and say "What's up?" because I was wondering why the cutest boy in school was rushing my way. As he catches up to me he says "I'm sorry my teammates were rude and obnoxious to you in class. They think just because they're on the varsity basketball team they can be jerks. I noticed that this past summer at camp". Honestly, I didn't hear anything he said after "teammates". I just smiled and said "It's okay. I'm use to it after four years. I'm the no friend girl". Joey smiles and says "Not anymore because I would like to call you my friend if thats okay. I know we only met an hour ago but I think you're cool, even though you're not the best at basketball. I laugh and say "I would love to be friends" as I try not to burst into a happy dance. As I tell Joey I have to go and get into my car, I realize my least favorite class just ended up becoming my favorite.
