Chapter 1

Today is my first day of senior year and I'm nervous to say the least. Nervous what the year has in store for me, will I get into college? Which college will I go to? Will I live to make it to college?

The kids at my school probably think I'm the weird kid because I never talk, but what they don't understand is I'm afraid too. I live with my abusive father and step-mom and every time I leave the house and come home, I'm welcomed or told goodbye with a slap in the face and threat of not telling anyone or else. Of course, I don't know what he means by "or else" because he scares me enough already, I don't want to find out.

Before getting ready for school, I was woken up by him barging into my room and yanking me out of bed. He has his moments of just rage and it's horrifying. He throws me around and beats me like I'm a doll and not an actual human being. Underneath my clothes are bruises all up and down my body. Black, purple, you name it. School and dance are the only parts of my day I look forward to because no one touches me.

After getting to school, I notice something different. There is a new kid who is quite handsome, and very tall. I hoped he was in my class so maybe I could actually make a friend at school but he is only a junior.

After admiring the new kid in the hall, I make it to my class and find a seat. Of course, I'm greeted by my teacher and classmates upon entering but all I do is greet them with a smile.

My schedule is rough this year. Block 1: AP Calculus, Block 2: AP Chemistry, Block 3: AP Psychology, and Block 4: Gym, only because I didn't want to do another AP course.

As fourth block arrives, I notice a tall boy in my class. It happens to be the one I admired this morning so I walk over and stand near him and the other guys playing basketball. I'm not athletic or good at any sport, except dance, at all but I was willing to make myself known.
