Midsummers day. The longest day of the year. Elisabetta wore her pink and yellow summer dress out on the dock by her parents lake. They had told her many of times to stay off of the dock unless her papa or mother were with her. Elisabetta had always been a curious little girl, and at the age of six, she just wanted to explore all aspects of her parents vast estate. Every time she went exploring, she was always drawn to the lake. It was as if it called to her.
“Elisabetta!” her papa called out to her. “You must come in now, your mother wishes to speak with you.”
That was all she needed to hear to jump up from where she sat and begin to run towards the house. Her mother had been ill for many months and it was very rare for her to be awake and have energy to carry on a conversation. Elisabetta was looking forward to being able to speak with her mother that she forgot about the loose board in the center of the dock. Elisabetta stepped onto the board and plummeted into the water below.
The next day, the papers spoke about how her mother had passed on right before the unexplainable blizzard that had caused the lake to freeze in its entirety. At last the paper mentioned that Elisabetta had gone missing and that her papa was setting up a search team to look for her as soon as the snow began to melt. However, the snow did not melt until the spring of the following year. That alone caused them to lose hope and believe that she had died and was consumed by animals. However, when all the snow had melted upon the ground, the lake remained frozen solid. Many superstitions then went around the entire town, but the conclusion to each superstition remained the same: Elisabetta lay frozen in the lake.
