'I still remember, third of December,
me in your sweater,
you said it looked better on me than it did you,
only if you knew, how much I liked you,
but I watched your eyes as she walks by,
what a sight for sore eyes,
brighter than a blue sky,
she's got you mesmerised,
while I die.'
You take a slightly shaky breath as you look up into the audience at the late night café. You look around as you start the next verse and your eyes stop on one person.
'Why would you ever kiss me?
I'm not even half as pretty,
you gave me your sweater,
it's just polyester,
but you like her better,
wish I were heather...'
His eyes don't leave yours as yours slightly tear up, he slowly runs his fingers through his short hair and he adjusts his glasses as you continue.
'Watch as she stands with her holding your hand,
put your arm around her shoulder,
now I'm getting colder,
how could I hate her, she's such an angel,
but then again kind of wish she were dead,
as she walks by,
what a sigh for sore eyes,
brighter than a blue sky,
she's got you mesmerised,
as I die.'
You him rest his elbow on the table as his hands cradle his face. Your eyes never leave his as you see his face watch you as you continue on.
'Why would you ever kiss me?
I'm not even half as pretty,
you gave her your sweater,
it's just polyester,
but you like her better,
wish I were heather...'
You hold the note 'heather' just like you practised but this time with more emotion. You slightly furrow your eyebrows as you sing the last part.
'Why would you ever kiss me?
I'm not even half as pretty,
you gave her your sweater,
its just polyester,
but you like her better,
wish i were...'
And you trail off with that. There's a moment of silence and instantly everyone starts clapping and cheering. You smile and nod as you quickly get up off the stool and take your guitar off the stage. You see your aunty, the manager of the café, walk up to you.
'That was gorgeous, Y/n! It was as good as usual, here's your pay.' She says and she hands it to you.
'Thank you so much for giving me this gig every Friday, aunty.' You say with a smile.
