It was close to midnight. The moon was round. A thrilling sensation washed over him when the wind caressed his skin.
"It's time" he said to himself.
Aiden double checked his weapons. The knife strapped to his side, the revolver loaded with silver bullets which was strapped to his thigh, the throwing star in his back pocket and the grenade in his left pocket.
He placed a scarf over his nose, covering half of his face to prevent the smell of the silver from assaulting his nose and weakening his wolf.
He stared into the dark cave in front of him and balled his fist when fear rose "Kill a bunch of vampires. Steal powerful gem. Kill more vampires. Escape with gem. Piece of cake" he tried to convince himself.
Once he was done with his reassuring excersice, he started on his deathly journey through the valley of darkness and sorrow.
He lets his wolf's sight come forward so, he could see. He gagged when the fowl stench of rotten flesh hit his nose. He reached for the source and found a rotten corpse. It was a humans with bones sticking out of it.
When fear brewed in his guts again, he tried to remember why he was doing this. Why he was embarking on a mission many warned would be his last.
His pack was dying and so was every other pack, too many humans were reported missing, crops and livestock were dying. His wolves were falling sick and some were closer to death than he presently was.
The Draid he had consulted told him a gem was stolen from them a few days ago. It was stolen by vampires when they migrated into the area. What was happening to his pack was a result of that.
According to the tree, the gem was the source of the Driad's power and Draid's were what was keep this dying world habitable. Without them, the world was doomed.
A jewel said to posses unspeakable power men only dreamed of. Some even said it possesed the power to give and take life.
"So, you understand why it is so important" the Draid said.
He did.
The thought of having it even made his mouth water but he knew all too well, that kind of power came at a price not many were willing to pay.
A few bus and train rides later here he was navigating the cave he believed they resided in.
He was quick and quite. Using his enhanced sense of smell, hearing and sight to move through the disgusting coven unnoticed or so he thought.
The sound of a snap behind him had his spine freezing and his wolf emerging only slightly.
His claws and canines extended.
He slowly reach for the knife by his side when he heard a low growl.
He pulled it out of its sheathe slowly, the sound of metal scrapping metal echoed in the dark cave. The growl then turned into a loud roar and a vampire leaped at him.
Quicker than the vampire could see, he slashed the knife through the air and when the vampire landed, it's head rolled away from its body and blood pooled on the floor.
Another emerged from the darkness with its claws angled.
He dodged it, punched the vampire into the wall, drove his knife into its neck and into the wall. Then he grabbed the vampires hair and pulled it's head off its body.
Blood poured from its neck and it's body fell limp. He dumped the head on the floor and wiped his hand on his jeans.
A loud squeal that shook the cave echoed.
