The House Game
By Ethan Odham
Chapter 1:
Prologue
Danny Banner wanted to stay home on the first day of school, but he had no choice. He got up, got into his usual rock n' roll T-shirt that was way too small for him. Danny loved rock n' roll, in fact, he lived for it. He walked down the stairs to get breakfast, drowsier than ever. Danny poured in his milk, then his cereal; he was that tired.
"Danny?" his mom said.
"What?" He asked.
"You look exhausted honey."
"I'm fine mom," Danny said,
"Just another day of prison."
"When you finish your breakfast," His mom said,
"Get out of that shirt and brush your hair."
Danny grumpily got out of his chair and walked back upstairs. He went into the bathroom and combed his hair back into a curve, the usual. He saw his mom had an old picture of him that was shoved into the frame of the mirror.
"Mom!" He yelled.
"Yeah?" She ran in saying.
"Look at this, I looked so young and dumb back then." Danny said.
"No, you didn't you looked just fine." Danny's mom replied, shooting him a glance that Danny knew meant to get ready for school.
"Whatever," he said.
He put the picture down and went to change his shirt.
He put on a gray and blue shirt.
He proceeded to go to the bus stop. Danny's friends were already there. There's Dustin, He's a good kid but he's shy. He always wears khaki shorts but never wore the same shirt. His hair is never in order, it's always messed up. Then there's Grace, she's nice unless you make her mad. Her hair is basically always in a bun. She's wearing a skirt and sneakers. Lastly there's Sarah. The shy unusual type. She wears the same clothes every day. A unicorn T-shirt and jeans. We started to talk, and then the bus came hitting the sign marked Westland.
"Well, now no one will know what this dump is," Grace said, and the kids all boarded the bus.
Chapter 2:
The mysterious house
As the kids boarded the bus, they instantly noticed a substitute bus driver.
"Told you subs can't drive," Danny said. The bus driver hearing that, floored the breaks, stood up full of alacrity and roared,
"Who said that!?" Everyone went silent.
"I see how it is," He said.
"Your bus driver told me about this stop, he said you were real troublemakers."
"Great, we're honored as the troublemaker stop." Danny told Dustin. The bus driver overheard this and was not pleased when he said this, but he ignored it. The next stop was Mike Patski's house, he's a real jerk. The group has known him since kindergarten. He was the one kid who always misbehaved and never knew what he was doing in class.
"Hello!" Mike Patski roared all ostentatiously as he showed everyone a new golden watch he got. He walked off towards his friends. He took a glance at Danny and Dustin. He ran over.
