Day Twenty One: Maybe Things Would Be Different If I Had Pressed Play

I get so nervous approaching you

Even though I don't  think you mean it

That cold stare of yours is hard to face

I need to know if you need a copy of the script

Obviously you do but I need a reason to talk to you

90 pages through the copier later the script is in your hands

I interrupt your conversation with Charlie

Charlie and I are good friends

You are discussing nuclear warfare

I laugh quietly

Charlie has a way of making a n y t h i n g funny

You finally acknowledge me with a glare

It was not my conversation to laugh at

I leave abruptly

Sitting across the room I put headphones in

So it appears like I'm listening to music

But I forget to hit play and listen to you instead

Charlie is funny but I hardly notice

I like listening to you and the intoxicating way in which you speak

You are well informed about everything and your words appear flawless

I could listen to you speak endlessly

That should have startled me

It wasn't normal that I was so keen to listen because

As I'm sure you have noticed by now

Listening has never been my thing and I talk more than I should

But I shut up for you

I should have kept talking.
