Day Seventy Eight: You Left Me Addicted

Tonight Hope is throwing a party

I spend hours getting ready because I know you’ll be there

We spend the night together in our own little corner

You hand me a folded piece of paper

In it were the contents of your heart

(or so I thought)

It says that I’m beautiful and you love the way my eyes shine when I smile

I tell you how my mother drives me crazy

And sometimes the darkness is inescapable

I thought I saw empathy in your eyes

You stand up abruptly

-Follow me-

I would follow you anywhere

The crisp november air stings my cheeks

But the warmth of your hand around mine is irreplaceable

We sit in your car and you pull a bowl out of the glove box

-Have you ever tried?-

-No.-

You shrug and light it

With your first hit I see how you escape your darkness

I saw release surge through your veins

And I wanted to feel it too

I inhale too quickly and cough and cough and cough

You smirk and take it back for yourself

-Maybe it’s not your thing-

I want it to be my thing. I want it to be our thing

I take it back and this time I don’t cough

I see a small smile on your face

And I become an addict to the incredible feeling.
