I laid down the blanket, setting the picnic basket on top. "Sit down, m'lady" I impersonated a British accent. "June, don't ever do that again". "Like you could do better, Mae" she started laughing at me. I smiled and pulled out our lunch.
After lunch, Mae went to the playground as I moved our stuff to under the willow tree. As soon as she left, she came back grabbing my hand. She dragged me over to where, A boy, around my age, was singing and playing guitar. I smiled and danced with Mae. The boy was singing I Miss You. Mae was falling asleep in my arms so I brought her back to our spot.
She woke up and went back out, as I packed up to leave. "Let me help you". It was the boy from earlier. "SHIT. Uh. Sorry. You scared me.". He laughed and folded the blanket. "It's quite nice in here." I looked at him and smiled. "Ya, I guess. My mom always took me here before she left. So I decided to pass on the tradition to Mae." "Is she, your um daughter?" I looked at him like he was crazy. "No. No. No. I babysit." He looked relieved. "What school do you attend?" "None. I dropped out. I teach music at Franklin after school though." I replied with a shrug.
He looked at me like I was crazy. Before I could say anything else my phone rang. "SHIT. Um hold on. No, yes, why, 7? No, ok byeee " I hung up. Sorry that was my boyfriend. He said there's band practice that he wanted me to attend tonight. I'm rambling now, SHIT sorry" I nervously laughed, while I grabbed my basket.
