A shrill shriek echoed in the distance as i slipped my sword back into the scabbard, my icy breath catching my cheeks. the strong smell of foul odour went away, but the rotting corpse stayed laid front of me, ashing away in the breeze. i took a deep breath and ventured deeper into the village.
The village seemed like a ghost town, no noise except for the whistle of the wind chopping agains the branches of the leaves. After looking around for a couple of minutes, i heard footsteps from behind me.I whipped my sword out ready , but to my surprise, Giyuu, my partner and also a Hashira, was there.
'Jesus Christ Giyuu, dont scare me like that, i could've killed you!" i exclaimed in shock staring back at his unbothered face. He gave me a confused look and rolled his eyes. The confused look turned into concern as he looked at my bloody, torn, clothes. 'Mae, don't be silly, you could never have killed me' he said in a half joke half serious tone. 'also your uniform is a STATE! we need to get you back to headquarters to get you some new clothes, follow me.' he grabbed my dirty hand and led me into an alleyway. My crow landed on my shoulder, and i fed it some corn as i was being dragged away. The cold breeze turned into a strong rain as we ran through the corn field, the icy mist caching my lungs.
As soon as we arrived, I was greeted with warm tea and towel to dry myself off with. Giyuu refused the tea and sat down on the floor, watching me dry myself, looking deep in thought. Out of the corner of my eye, i could see Mitsuri walking towards us, looking as happy and gleeful as ever.
"Mae!" she exclaimed in shock, coming over to greet me with a hug. "It's been ages since i last saw you, we were all quite worried" she looked towards Giyuu and winked "especially mr. moody over there." Giyuu pulled a look at her and rolled his eyes. "Here, i brought you some fresh uniform" Mitsuri handed me the uniform and i graciously accepted it.
"Thankyou so much!" I bowed at her in an eshaku manner, and she did the same. "I better be off, i have lots of tasks to do, we will catch up later i presume?" She waved at me and bowed at Giyuu, and then she swiftly left as quick as she arrived.
"We better be off Mae, my crow wants us both to go into a square of woods just half a mile away, hurry up." Giyuu stood on his feet and started walking inront of me, his hair swaying in the wind. "Wait for me then." i shouted, picking up my pace. He looked over his shoulder and waited for me to catch up. The rain turned into a soft shine, and we ventured into the unknown of the woods
