Chapter 14: Epilogue.
Narrator POV...
In the light if a single candlelight the loving couple lay entwined in an embrace. They were too afraid to move at the moment not wanting the sensation of the afterglow leave their bodies. The room was silent and still and the only thing that dared to penetrate the happiness was the knowledge of what must come next. Lestat could feel Marius still close by watching over this moment making sure that he does what he promised to do. And it hurt somehow; the pain coming from a place inside he thought until now was long dead. His humanity. He loved her as human and cherished her sweet innocent heart. But he knew that this was the only way.
"I want you to be mine forever." He breathes into her hair as he strokes her back.
Raina smiles over the cool skin of his chest. She's been secretly waiting for this time to come and even though the human part of her was apprehensive and unsure she knew it was what she wanted all along. The time was right, and she shook off the fear from her mind trying to talk her out of it. She was meant to be a vampire and to be his all along.
"I wish that with all my heart, I will go anywhere with you. If we are together nothing will ever bring me down again."
If she didn't take a chance with him, she'd only regret this moment forever. All she had to do was trust him. Their love ran deep, more than anything she'd ever experienced in her life yet and she was not going to let it go.
He wanted her forever and she was ready, and he saw it in her mind she was still clinging to her human insecurities, but he knew this will dissolve in time. Yet he wanted her to be sure and not second guess her choice. But if he was being honest with himself there was no real choice here and he didn't like thinking on other possibilities. Death was not an option he could let her make. She was almost sure right on the verge of an answer.
"Are you truly ready?" Lestat asked.
"Yes, I think I am."
"You must be sure."
"I want to see what you see, know what you know. Be with you and we will never let one another go." She rose to look him in the eyes. "Take me away from all this death."
"Yes, but death you will become." He says to her as a little warning.
"I don't care, take me. I want this."
A tear slipped down her cheek and this simple act of emotion had such power over him, so much that he rose and rocked her gently into an embrace. She felt so warm and smelled so sweet that he could hardly bring himself to do it. Could he so easily destroy the human that he came to love? Damn her utterly into an eternity living in the shadows and hungering endlessly for blood. He should have thought on this more before he sought her out. The amount of love her had for her was staggering. But he knew it was the only way and Marius was listening. He had to, he must.
As if picking up on his doubts, Raina place a gentle hand on his face and watched his eyes flicked down to hers. "I'm willing to give up everything for you, my life as a human is not much to speak of. I have no one that will miss me."
He knew this was true. "I will be gentle, and I will make it okay. You will only feel pleasure when I do this, perhaps only a slight sting and that will be all."
Raina stared up at him with her clear bright violet eyes. When she nodded her readiness, Lestat took his opportunity. He opened his mouth wide, exposing his fangs and pulled Raina in a firm grasp. She gasped in surprise but not fear at his sudden movement. Lestat sunk them into her breast. She cried out briefly but soon surrendered to the pleasurable sensations. He was right Raina mentally noted, it was better than sex.
As Lestat tasted her sweet blood he moaned into her breast. Her very essence was running now through his veins and now their lives were entwining with a thick bond of sire and fledgling. Just whispers of a sigh escaped her lips as Lestat took his fill. His member hardened but he suppressed his need there was no time for that. The sexual tension was pulsating through his veins and now she was all his and he will never be alone again.
Lestat pulled his mouth from her as she continued to tremble. Raina lifted her eyes to him as he cradled her in his arms and the look on her face told him what he already knew.
"I guess there is no going back now," Raina said breathlessly.
"No, any regrets so far my sweet mate?" he asked.
"Not one, well maybe that it took me so long to come around." Raina said in a gentle whisper. "I promise to never let my fear get in the way again."
With that, Lestat leaned down and kissed her tenderly then raised his wrist to his mouth and nicked the skin creating a gash. The blood began to dip and flow in a crimson stream down his arm. He pulled her head up firmly letting the drops drip in her eager mouth. She licks and tasted the blood and as the coppery taste tuned sweet, she grabbed his wrist and began to drink. Moans softly filled the air as she sucks at the wrist for his essence. The pleasure was exquisite for each but soon Lestat's wound began to burn. When he begged her to stop, she did so right away.
She was almost giddy with the joy the union created but when the discomfort replaced the pleasure she shrieked from the agony.
"Don't pay attention, it happens to us all." He assured her as he grips his wrist. "It's only the body that dies."
After taking her last breath, Raina rose to her feet, gliding off the bed in one fluid motion. She smiled and wiped the remaining blood from the corner of her mouth. "More please," She says eagerly that made Lestat chuckled to himself.
Lestat reached for his discarded clothes. "Dress first then we will go." In a blur, the pair dressed in seconds and was at each other's side in moments.
The couple made there way to the balcony. The stars twinkled and came sharply into view for her. She could now see well in the dark and was mesmerized as everything seemed to move but did not. The smallest whisper of moment or vibration caused her to turn her head in its direction. She looked at everything anew with her vampire eyes and it was all too breathless to describe.
Lestat held out his hand and she took it. "Come my love, my child. We have all eternity to explore and to be adventurous. We must now feed and get you a coffin."
She smiled at his joy that shone on his face and gleamed in his eyes. "I will never leave you."
With that promise Lestat's heart soared with the hopes that they both will never feel the pain of loneliness again.
"Even if you tried, I would not let you go." She giggled at his possessiveness.
"Come now let's get out of here and we can start our eternity together."
Lestat holds her in a sweet embrace as they rose in the air together. Taking off, they flew over and out of the city in the cover of night into the dark horizon.
The end...
