He looked at me with tears streaming down his face and said,” Gracyn… I don’t want you
thinking like this. I don’t want you thinking like this because you’re wrong…” I could see the look of
pain and worry in his eyes as he looked at me. That very look in his eyes made my heart shatter, and I
could feel my heartbeat increase. I sighed and looked at him and said, “ Cody, I’m sorry that I said that,
and you’re right. I’m just thinking about too much at once, and things that aren’t true are running through
my mind, making it hard for me to believe what people say to me.” he looked over at me, and pulled me
into a tight hug and said,” Don’t believe what your mind tells you Gracyn. I love you, your mom loves you, and so does your family.” I looked at him struggling to breathe and said,” I love you too Cody. I’m
just freaking out, and I don’t want to not be able to see you again. I need you here with me…” I trailed off
on my last sentence, and I could feel the darkness creeping back as I stared off into the distance hoping he
couldn’t hear or see me crying. He sat behind me and wrapped his arms around my waist, and put his
head on my shoulder. He inhaled sharply and said,” Gracyn… Are you okay? You’re crying, I can tell. I
love you.. It’s gonna be okay I swear I’m never leaving you.” I looked over at him with tear filled eyes,”
You say that now… I think I’m going to lose you like I do everyone else… I’ve grown used to it…” He
put his hand underneath my chin and grabbed it, turning my head so I was looking him in the eyes. I
looked off to the right of him so I wasn’t looking him directly in the eyes. He sighed and said, “ Gracyn,
would you please look me in the eyes?” I shook my head no and continued to stare off into the distance,
now feeling warm tears cascading down my cheeks. I looked over at him and said through tears, “ Can
you please leave me alone for a while? I need some space to think, and I would like to see my mom.” He
nodded as he slowly stood up off of the bed and said, “ Yes of course. I’ll go get your mom and tell her
that you’d like to see her, and I’ll go home. Feel free to text me when you’re ready to talk to me.” I
nodded, “ Thanks.” He swiftly turned and walked out the door, not even sparing one last glance back at
me as he left the room. I sighed as I looked down at the soft white sheets that were on my hospital bed,
finally letting all of my tears go. I saw my warm tears hit the soft white sheets below me and then turn to
small wet spots.
