David had undergone surgery the past weeks and was now almost completely recovered. His internal bleedings were not life threatening anymore and it was only the broken bones that hadn't healed yet. He had a broken collarbone, a broken arm and a few broken ribs. He had also had a punctured lung, so it was a miracle that he had survived all of these injuries, at the same time.
Thomas, the man who helped him to the hospital in the first place came by every day to see him. It seemed as if he felt some sort of responsibility upon him. Thomas was in the middle age and did not speak that much about himself, but David presumed he was kind of a lonely man.
He felt like Thomas treated him like his own child, he spent time with him, listened to him and took care of him. All that, and he was constantly looking after any signs of David's family and keeping contact with the police. He didn't want to question why Thomas did this because it was nice to have someone to care about him, just like his own family would have done if they were still alive. And when he came to think about his family he became both sad and angry. Why didn't anyone else survive and what happend that day? There were so many questions and he needed answers.
David and Thomas checked out from the room he had spent his last 2 weeks in at the reception. Thomas had gotten David new clothes, because David's own were messed up by the accident.
They said goodbye to the doctors and nurses and started walking.'I have to ask Tom.. Why are you doing this for me? I mean I've asked this before but honestly, why do you bother?' They were walking through the corridor and towards the elevator.
'You've lost everything, I can't just leave you with nothing'
He had said that before. But he continued after a while: 'And now I've grown quite fond of you'
David smiled 'I don't know how to thank you'
'You don't need to. Honestly, I like your company. I've been quite alone'
He didn't want to ask any more questions so that Thomas would get uncomfortable.
David's body hurt with every step he took because of his not yet healed wounds and some fractures. He had not taken his pain killers this morning, he thought it made him weak, so he hid them under his tongue before spitting them out. He actually liked to feel the pain, it made him focus on the physical pain rather than the loss of his family.-----
They took a taxi to the apartment that Thomas had in the city center. They took the elevator to the top floor and it turned out that the apartment was a whole floor with several rooms.
'Nice place you got, Tom'
'Thanks'
Thomas had said to David that he was welcome to stay for as long as he wanted, until he was ready to go back. They went on through the large living room and into the right.
'This will be your room' said Thomas and looked at David.
David was quiet for a moment before he said, 'Really?'
'Dinner is ready in about an hour, you can start preparing your room or watch TV in the living room if you want''Seriously, Tom I don't know what would have happened without you.'
'Don't think about it. As I said before, you've lost everything and I know what that feels like. I want you to live the life you always wanted, even if it means without your family'
David wasn't far away from crying, even though he never cried. Never.
'You're young, go on an adventure. I know it might be tough to think about it now but some day'David thought about his parents always wanting him to go on an adventure, a journey, find friends for life and meet Pokemon. Even is younger sister had done it, and their parents had been so proud of her. They always talked about her and her journey and what she had accomplished.

The pain wasn't quite as strong the next day, but he still refused to take his pain killers. He spitted them out when Tom didn't notice.
David didn't have much to do so he borrowed Tom's computer and did some research. It appeared the Kalos region was pretty far away from johto. What he knew, they didn't plan to go this far on their boat trip. His parents had said that the destination was a surprise... But David wouldn't have guessed that they were going all the way to Kalos.
The Kalos region seemed like a nice place though, and maybe it was good with a fresh start. He knew that someone needed to take responsibility and sell the house and get all the stuff, but he wasn't ready.
'What are you up to?' Asked Tom. He had been working all day and came back from work this very minute.
'Kalos is amazing, have you been to all of the places?' Asked David dreaming.
'Yes' he put down his briefcase. 'I've seen the most of it, I was a trainer once '
'Really? Were you good?'
'Yes, or not to brag but I won some championships'
'Cool, my sister would have loved to meet you'
Tom sighed, you could see the pain in his eyes. 'She was a trainer I suppose?'
'Yeah, she was out on a journey. But she returned home for our little vacation, and you know the rest...'
'I don't know what to say David, you must miss her'
'I do, I was so proud of her. I never admitted it, but I was'
'How about you?' Asked Tom suddenly.
'What?'
'Were you on a journey?'
'No...'
'Why not?'
'Honestly? I don't really like Pokemon. I went to a normal school instead, I want to be an agent for like johto investigation or now... Maybe Kalos'
'You know you need Pokemon there too right?'
'I know but I would rather like to learn how to use a gun'
'But Pokemon are so amazing David'
'So they say.' he answered ironically.
'I could take you to professor Sycamore if you wanted a Pokemon you know, or we could go catch one together. You're only 16 it's not late to start now!'
'Let me think about it Tom' said David and forced a smile.
