If you follow me, you would've seen my announcement but I finished watching The Originals tonight. Long story short; I didn't realise the episode I was on was the finale and I thought they would find their way around it. Oh, and Elijah is literally my favourite character. So, I'm doing this at 1:39am so that maybe I can get some sleep tonight.
Characters: Klaus, Elijah, Kol, Rebekah, Freya, Hop, Marcel, Keelin, Henrik (mentioned), Finn (mentioned)
Pairings: Marcel/Rebekah, Freya/Keelin (no slash)
Warnings: Spoilers for TO 5X13, major character deaths
Summary: ...and my greatest honor.

"It's been a glorious ride, Niklaus..." Elijah whispered, tears still shining in his eyes as he held his little brother by the shoulder. "...and my greatest honour." Klaus and Elijah pressed the daggers into each others' chests and just stared into one another's eyes. Before them, over a thousand years worth of memories flashed.

Playing with wooden swords as kids, running through the forest as teenagers, holding each other close during storms, making their vow, Elijah pulling Klaus back from the edge over and over again, falling in love in the 1400s, fighting together in the 1700s, then laughing together in the 1800s, meeting again in the 1940s,all the way through to Hope being born, Klaus finally ending Mikael, Elijah regaining his memories... to this.

Niklaus had always been afraid of death, been determined to make himself truly immortal; even going so far so as to undo the binding spell and become a hybrid. Yet here he was, embracing death for the sake of his daughter. His daughter whom at first he had told Elijah to kill. He was stood there, merely accepting the fact that his older brother had a white oak stake and was about to stab him with it. Elijah had never felt so proud.

Elijah wasn't scared. Niklaus' acceptance of what was about to happen helped him conclude his own fate: He was about to die. But, for the sake of Hope and Niklaus, Elijah was glad. He'd lived over ten lifetimes already: a thousand years was far more than enough than one needs. So, he glanced down at the stake in Niklaus' hand, and nodded.

Niklaus nodded back. Elijah felt the sting and stab of the stake, felt himself greying out as Niklaus did the same. Both brothers gasped, Elijah gritting his teeth against the pain. So many laughs, tears, blood, sadness, joy... all coming down to an end by a piece of wood.

The grey was creeping up Niklaus' face, yet his younger brother didn't make a sound. Elijah watched as the grey consumed Niklaus' face, then he started... wasting away. Bits of him were blown into the wind, gone as quickly as he came. Elijah knew the same thing was happening to him, but he didn't care. He just watched as Niklaus' life finally came to an end, watched as his brother turn to flakes of ash and was whisked away until everything went black, and Elijah Mikaelson saw no more.

"It's been a glorious ride, Niklaus..." Klaus felt the smile fall from his face. "...and my greatest honor." Elijah managed to smile falteringly for a few seconds, and Klaus managed a small one of his own, then he pressed the white oak stake against Elijah's chest. Elijah did the same to him.

As Klaus caught Elijah's eye, memories flashed before them. Playing tag in the woods when they were young, Elijah teaching him how to fight as a young teen, making their vow, Elijah and him having a splash fight in a lake mid-1300s, horse racing in the 1600s, Klaus falling off the rails and Elijah catching him before he could fall too far, 1960s dancing, Elijah holding Hope for the first time, Klaus and Elijah going through the red door together, to this.

Elijah was so noble, enough to die by his younger brother's side, together as one. Klaus admired him for that; he himself would've never been able to stick to personal morals as much as Elijah does. Elijah had stuck by Klaus through everything, thick and thin. Even now, with them pressing stakes into each other, Klaus wouldn't want to be with anyone else than Elijah. He was proud to do this with his brother, and he was proud of his brother for doing this with him.

Klaus wasn't afraid. Though he saw tears still blanketing Elijah's eyes, he knew his older brother had also accepted their conjoined fate. They'd been through and done so much together; every choice they had made in the past one thousand years leading to this very moment. Klaus wasn't afraid. He embraced death like an old friend, welcoming it with open arms, as long as it meant that Hope would be safe.

Elijah nodded at him, and Klaus knew it was time. He nodded back and together, they plunged the stakes into each other. Klaus felt the sting and the stab as usual, then just looked into Elijah's eyes. Elijah, who had his teeth gritted against the pain, who stared at Klaus almost as intently as Klaus was staring at him.

Elijah greyed out almost as quickly as Klaus did. Then, they both began to turn to ashes, the wind taking them away as though they were nothing. Soon enough, the world turned black...
and Klaus Mikaelson saw no more.

Marcel held Rebekah tight, tears marking his cheeks as she sobbed into his chest.

Keelin kept Freya close as the oldest Mikaelson cried rivers of tears.

And Kol held onto his favourite niece as she didn't cry, but merely spoke about her father and uncle.

"Uncle Elijah... I don't know how he did it. Even when he was killing people or fighting, he still managed to look elegant. As for Dad... he tried, he really did. Uncle Elijah told me I did something to Dad in fifteen years that Elijah has been trying to do for a thousand. That I was his redemption, his humanity."

Kol nodded, resting his chin on the top of Hope's head. "He was right, as usual. From the moment you were born, and even in the months before then, I saw a change in Nik I never thought I'd see. He was almost good. With emphasis on 'almost', of course." Hope chuckled, and Kol smiled. "As for Elijah... he was always the good one. Freya we thought was dead, Finn was obsessed with being a mama's boy, Nik was well... Nik. Rebekah was always flirting around with men and I was the mischief maker. Your Uncle Henrik died young, as you know, but he would've been like me."

Hope smiled and snuggled closer to her Uncle. "How will we know when they did it?" She asked, her face drawing serious. Kol's face did the same before he answered. "I don't know. I guess we'll just... feel it."

And feel it, they did. It was like a collective gasp of breath. Kol felt himself go pale, Freya and Rebekah sobbed harder than ever, Hope finally broke down and Keelin and Marcel tried to comfort their significant others whilst tears also marked their faces.

That was it, they thought.

To the unsuspecting people down the street, the little orange embers flying through the sky went unnoticed. None of them knew the truth: that it was the end of a brotherhood that lasted over a thousand years.

That really was the end of Niklaus and Elijah Mikaelson.

OWOWOWOWOWOW I KNOW THAT WAS SHORT BUT OUCH. I literally couldn't handle that last episode, it hurt too much. Anyways, I don't care that that was short, I don't think my emotions could handle much more. I'm not even going to pre read it because I have to sleep and I'll cry again if I go through it so hope you enjoyed, goodnight!

Cheers, Isaac
