Aurelia and Ambrose stood up first, and slowly ,as though trying not to wake up a sleeping baby, motioned everyone toward an empty table.
The game went on and on for about an hour, till it was about 7. They all knew each other but had never gathered all at once so the game sounded boring to those who haven't played it yet, but it really gave them a lot to talk about. Its specially fun to switch topics at homonyms or words with multiple meanings. Like if someone says Wheat, the next person can say Veet, and the next can say wax, and so on.
They had arrived at 4. And 7.30 was when the dance floor started getting filled up. So, they all decided to rush and meet all their teachers in time, before the dance floor got too crowded.
The Golden Oak High School had a different and slightly complex grade system.
There are 2 branches apparently, Branch 1 had 1st to 8th grade, whereas Branch 2 had 1st to 12th grade. All the students that lived nearer to Branch 1, went there up till 8th after which the could either automatically shift to Branch 2 or change schools altogether. Branch 2 was also more grand, and had way more facilities comparatively. Students who lived near Branch 2 went there normally from 1st to 12th grade.
This group right here had to go to Branch-1 up till 8th and then Branch 2 for the rest.
Everyone except Aurelia and Vivian had been in Branch 1 since 1st grade. Aurelia arrived at 8th grade. Vivian arrived in 6th grade.
Sylvia Spent her 9th and 10th grade in Branch 2 and shifted to a different school for her junior and senior year i.e. 11th and 12th grade.
Ambrose left for his grade 11 but he's back for his 12th grade, as we found out earlier.
And that made Aurelia more nervous than ever. Uncertainty wasn't her song pursuit. She would either plan EVERYTHING out for future or totally ignore it totally until things came hurling at her and she was forced to face them.
Meeting up with teachers was important, because this carnival was being held at Branch 1 where they all used to go earlier. So,they only got to see these teachers a few times a year.
At about 7.50, they had met, and caught up with all the teachers present. As they headed to the dance floor, the music stopped as the Cultural Coordinator positioned the mic. A few confused mutters and groans were audible.
"I am here to announce, with much pride-"
Idk why she reminds me of Professor Umbridge.
"- that our school, has recently been starting a partnership with The University of Adelaide such that best of our students will have a chance of admission in said University. This will obviously depend on how diverse and impressive their College Application letter is, but our school would be getting special attention now cause of this partnership."
Catching a breath, she continued, "Since, they are providing us with this immense opportunity to brighten futures of our young minds, they will also be changing a couple of rules and regulations."
something don't feel right doe.
There weren't major changes. The dress code had changed, and it was incredibly sexist, but it was still better than having to wear uniforms which would be just as sexist, but with lesser choice.
"Female students now had to wear skirts and tops or tshirts were to be tucked in, or atleast worn in such a way that hides majority of shoulders and waist. Skirts are to mandatorily cover 3/4th of the thighs, at the very least. "
What is their problem with shoulders!?
"In addition, only shoes with proper socks, were to be allowed; no sandals, or heels or even flip flops. Same applies for the male students except they are to wear full length jeans or pants or trousers along with shirts or tshirts. Knee-length shorts were allowed only in summers."
