AN :: I meant to publish this back in December of 2020 but I forgot. I hope you enjoy this little story- sorry for it being so late!
It started with a beautiful spark of yellow.
"Harry, please just stop for a moment!" Hermione called out through the fit of giggles erupting from her. "We didn't mean to laugh, I swear!"
Harry didn't turn around, not wanting Hermione or Ron to see the smile that he was trying so hard to hide. "It's fine 'Mione! I just need to stretch my legs for a bit." He called back loudly to her and kept walking ahead. He didn't know where he was going, but the fresh air felt nice.
Harry wasn't sure how much time had passed while he was lost within his thoughts, but before he knew it, he was falling to the ground. He assumed he just tripped on some tree roots as he was close to the forest line, but standing up and looking down proved him wrong. He had tripped over a pair of legs.
"Watch where you're going, Potter," Draco said simply, no real heat behind it. He held a book, seemingly just starting it as he was only a couple of pages in. It intrigued Harry and before either of them knew it, Harry was sitting down a respectable distance beside Draco.
Harry cleared his throat and peered over Draco's shoulder to get a better look. "What are you reading?" He mumbled as he glanced at the words on the page before Draco abruptly closed the book. Harry leaned back, slightly disappointed.
"Why do you care?" Draco asked, his tone was more defensively quizzical than it was angry. He didn't give Harry a chance to answer before continuing with a small smirk quirking at his lips. "I guess if you really want to know, you should probably just read it with me."
Harry knew it was most likely a trick to get him to back down and leave, but he was feeling spontaneous today. "Sure." He shrugged and scooted closer to Draco, their legs were almost touching as their shoulders ended up bumping one another in the movement. "Let's get reading then, shall we?"
Draco seemed a bit taken back, but opened the book to the first page anyway. He scooted a bit closer but tried his best not to touch the brunette much as they began to read in somewhat comfortable silence.
Hours passed and the sun was eventually setting. They had made it a little over halfway through the book. Neither of them noticed how relaxed they had become in each other's presence, practically cuddled into one another. They parted ways once they got back to the castle, Draco with a soft blush and his book, and Harry with a hard hammering in his heart he'd never felt before. Why yes, this memory was certainly yellow.
Then, there was a glimmer of blue.
"Sorry guys, I know that tonight is our usual hang out night- like every night, but I really need the extra help in potions right now." Harry shrugged and gripped his potions book a little tighter.
Hermione rolled her eyes and Ron frowned. "I told you I could help you. I don't mind!" Hermione offered, trying her best to get Harry to at least stay there with them. "Besides, I bet Malfoy is just setting you up anyway. I bet he doesn't even show. He isn't very reliable when it comes to helping others, we all know that."
Harry just shrugged again and said his goodbyes as he left the common room. The things Hermione had said were getting to him a little... what if Draco actually didn't show up? Harry shook his head, thinking like that would get him nowhere good.
Upon entering the library, Harry felt relief wash over him. Draco had shown up and it made his heart soar. He took the seat across the blonde with a grin. "Good evening, Draco," Harry said almost too happily.
