"Western side shifters take him to the roaring cell."
The voice rang in her mind like a haunting echo, each word sending a jolt into her whole body. Her heart pounded in her ears as she stared at the unconscious figure before her, his body turned away, only his back visible to her.
Her breath caught, lodged in her throat, as her surroundings began to shift. Her once familiar broken room blurred into darkness a dark chamber. Panic seized her as her eyes blurred, her mind struggling to stay anchored in the present. But it was too late.
Memories, long buried, came crashing back. Her vision wavered between past and present, pulling her deeper into the forgotten years. Decades of existence that no one should have lived through, and yet, here she was alive in a world that had long since moved on. The weight of her past threatened to overwhelm her, and for a brief moment, she wondered if she'd ever escape its grasp.
A few figures were laying on the floor like they had no soul. Bruises and wounds were all over their bodies. The dark corridor was filled with the terrible scent of blood. Deaden was the precise word to define their feelings. The only light which was falling on them was the one that was coming from those small windows of those slammers. Every living wasn't sensing any kind of pain, they were merely laying down there on the floor with blood coming out of their bodies, waiting for the death. Heavens knew how much they all waited for the death angle to come. For weeks, months, or for years to just arrive and bid them farewell. Oh, how many times they had begged for it? how much they had cried for it? But all their prayers went to waste. Like there was no god up in the sky.
One figure tried to sit from where she was laying, and a small wine left her wounded lips as she took a shaky breath in. The cuts on her back were fresh that she felt like knives were still in her back. Her heart pumped faster in her chest as the pain grew when she moved her hand. Every other human stayed at their place barely listening to little voices coming from the other partitions. Pain, misery, despair, and whatnot but they stayed at their places emotionless. They were too tired to do anything. To express anything.
The figure held the wall for her balance as her legs were badly shaking. She again tried to breathe, but the burning sensation over her throat hurt her badly when she tried to take a big breath. She was sure her neck was covered in deep bruises from all the choking. Sitting by the wall for some time she looked at everyone.
Gaining her strength as she knew she had to reach someone. And like the ground gave her power, slowly she wandered over the other bodies while blundering over some and at last, reached the person she was desiring to see. She winced slightly when she bend down and sit beside the laying figure.
"Baylin?" The girl whispered as she slowly brought her bloody hands up and touch her face softly, as she was afraid to hurt her. She caressed her cheek very softly careful with the scar on her face. She was precious. Precious to her.
Baylin after a while, gradually unfurled her eyes, she looked up tiredly and accomplished a weak attempt to smile. She closed her eyes again. Her breath hitched in her throat to see her loved one like this. What destiny had done to them? What destiny had done to all of the innocent souls? Tears of helpless filled in the girl's eyes as she blinked them.
