felix ran through the wide hallways of the ronemian castle, mouth wide open as screams of excitement mixed with fear came out.

he was 9 years old and was currently running away from his best friend, prince hwang hyunjin of nivaria.

honestly speaking, felix had no idea what he did wrong for hyunjin to be chasing him around but he did know that the moment hyunjin got his hands on the younger, he was definitely dead meat.

"lee felix," hyunjin yelled out between his pants as his taller frame tried to catch up with felix's leaner one. "you better be ready to die when i catch you!"

felix laughed maniacally as he sharply turned a corner and nearly ran into a guard who just let the boy pass by, already used to this scene.

"you have to catch up to me first hyunjin— oof!"

felix fell flat on the floor as he ran into someone. rubbing his butt in pain, he looked up to see a woman glaring down at him with slight mirth dancing across her eyes as she crossed her arms.

"felix, what on earth is going on here?" she said as the said boy fell speechless, having absolutely no idea as to how he should explain this chaos to his mom.

"mother two!" hyunjin said as he rounded the corner and abruptly braked to avoid running into the two. "he stole my caramels! punish this traitor!"

felix looked up at hyunjin with confusion before it finally clicked in him. earlier that day, hyunjin was doing the work assigned by his royal studies tutor and as usual, he had a pile of caramel candies next to him since they help him focus. meanwhile, felix being felix, snuck up on hyunjin and stole a good 3/4 of his caramel pile, and ran away for dear life until he got to his secret hideout that not even hyunjin knew of. he sat there for a couple of hours, devouring the stolen candy while reading the pre-stashed books he had.

just as he came out and started to walk through the hallways while humming a tune, a shriek was heard from far behind him and he turned around to see what the commotion was. seeing an angry hyunjin racing towards him, his eyes widened as he scrambled to run away, not remembering what he did to be chased by an angry and tall ball of blonde fluff. all he knew was that if he was caught, he was dead.

and that's how they ended up here, both princes out of breath, one at the feet of the queen of ronem and the other bent over, trying to not pass out from how hard he ran. after all, even though he was more athletic out of the two, he still didn't enjoy being active and would rather prefer to curl up next to the fireplace in his room with a good book and a mug of hot chocolate while the other was out doing whatever the heck he did.

chuckling, the queen reached a hand out for felix to grab onto, helping him get up from his place on the ground.

"i'm sorry jinnie, i'll get you more ok?"

hyunjin crossed his arms and stubbornly stared away. "you have to use your own money!"

"that won't be a problem," felix replied, wondering why hyunjin specifically said that. he was the crown prince of ronem; money wasn't a problem for him.

"no, you have to use your own," hyunjin stressed as he turned back to face the younger, eyes narrowing. "not your parent's money. you need to earn it yourself and get me my caramels otherwise i won't forgive you."

felix's face had a frown etched onto it as he looked at his mom who gave him a pointed look as if to say, 'i agree with hyunjin.' he sighed and agreed to the other boy who immediately turned around to face him and grabbed his arm.

"okay great! you'll have to get them to me by 7 pm today which is in six hours but you can do that, i believe in you! anyways, i want to show you something i found out in my studies so come with me."

felix was dragged away by his best friend against his will as the queen watched the two fondly, deciding to turn a blind eye on her son's cries for help.

"they'll both grow up just fine."
