It was a sunny day in the summer of 2017, The Robots had just returned to the Walter Manor after doing a performance at Balboa Park.
The Walter Manor was located in the middle of San Diego, and was built in the very late 1800's by a rich inventor called; Peter Walter I.
The Walter Manor currently is home to Peter Walter VI, The Walter workers, A gigantic cat called; Marshmallow, QWERTY and BEEBOP (computer interfaces),A mechanical giraffe called GG (Who's very annoying!), Steve The Sound Engineer, and The Robots who play together in a band called “Steam Powered Giraffe”.
Over the years the Walters have produced many types of Robots, from ones who fought in the wars, to Robots who have become actors.
But the most famous ones were the Robots of Steam Powered Giraffe.
These 3 Robots originally fought in the wars, when the wars had ended they decided to live at the Walter Manor with the decedents of their creator and form a band together.
These 3 robots were very mischievous and liked to do pranks and annoy the Walter workers.
The most mischievous of them all was a Steampunk Robot called Rabbit, she was built just before the other Robots in 1896. Rabbit was made with a copper body, and ran off of a new form of energy, known as; Blue Matter.
Rabbit wasn't always a girl robot though. For the longest time the robot was just another one of the guys. Rabbit likes to wear Black dresses, with Red and Back Stripped leggings. After her most recent upgrade, she persuaded Peter Walter to give her turquoise blue and copper faceplates, and a new neck that is black with silver vertical stripes, and new black hair with blue highlights. As a musician, Rabbit plays the keytar and accordion.
Rabbit is a well-intentioned robot, but she is prone to the most malfunctions. Due to her age, and the damage caused by the war.
Unlike many of the other robot musicians, Rabbit still possesses many of her Victorian parts, which makes her quite clumsy. She is always making jokes, and her favourite activity outside of entertaining is feeding the ducks at the Walter Cemetery.
Next there is Hatchworth, who was built just after Rabbit ,Hatchworth is an Art Deco inspired robot, with a orange moustache and sideburns, gold and copper faceplates, Hatchworth can be very shy at times, but he loves animals especially Mice. Hatchworth has a large hole in his chest cavity which shines a bright blue colour because his Blue Matter energy core is built into his chest.
After the war, Hatchworth was put to work in the Walter manor. He was fondly referred to, by the Walter family, as “Hatchworth”, because that no matter the occasion the robot could always supply a hatch's worth of delicious, mystery sandwiches.
Many years later Hatchworth’s Blue matter energy core started to leak and started to have disastrous consequences. Moustache and all, the Walter boys locked Hatch worth in a lead vault deep within Walter Manor until they could find a solution. But after months the Walters couldn’t find a solution, soon months turned into years...and then turned into decades.
In 2010, Peter Walter VI was struck with a moment of inspiration following an unfortunate scientific accident that left him physically scarred. He dusted off Hatchworth's gears and found a solution that will mend Hatchworth's broken power core.
Today Hatchworth's power core has been repaired and he has been upgraded to include the ability to play musical instruments and sing. Which comes in handy since he is the newest member of Steam Powered Giraffe. Hatchworth's favourite instruments to play are; Drums and Bass.Hatchworth’s still likes making mystery sandwiches as well as pretending to ride a bike and reading his copy of Moustache Today when it comes in the post.
Last But not least there is; The Spine.
The Spine was built in the style of Futurism, He considers himself as the most sensible and serious robot. The Spine was built at the same time as Hatchworth, originally Peter Walter built The Spine, to be featured at the Cavalcadium's scientific convention.
He is a silver robot with black faceplates, The Spine is a very smart robot and usually wears a suit and a black fedora hat. The Spine was originally created with a spinal column made up of smokestacks similar to a locomotive, this is why he was appropriately named The Spine. In 1955, the US government invested millions of dollars into upgrading The Spine. He received a brand new titanium alloy spine, and many highly classified weapons.
Along with his weapon upgrade, The Spine received new advanced programming. Instead of being an old fashioned automaton, The Spine was reprogrammed and redesigned to more closely represent a human. This way, he could perform special missions during the war, without any human lives being put in danger.
Despite a history of war, The Spine does not like violence, even in the service of his country. He, along with the rest of the Walter automatons have downloaded a vow of peace since the war, and will not use their weapons.
As a musician, The Spine plays the acoustic guitar, the bass, keyboard and the mandolin.
The Spine tries the most to fit in and be human company, but spends most of his time with the Walter's in-house computer network via The Hall of Wires.
