Hello and welcome to Introduction to Writing 101! I will talk about my plans for the class, the assignments I will give and how I will grade. Don't worry about the grading it means nothing, it's just fun for me.
In all seriousness I have always been a writer and I would love to teach my craft with people who are willing to learn and write alongside me.
At first, I will be asking you to write more about yourself and a small starting prompt before I teach anything so I know where you start at as a writer, where you land on that spectrum. Remember, you are not there to be judged and I would really love to read your work no matter how bad or good you think it is.
The first few lessons, of course, will be about how to simply set a foundation for writing. Introducing the story, characters, settings. Bringing in conflicts and learning how to solve them. Figuring out how to close a story and finally bringing it to a close.
After I have learned how my students write, what they are interested in learning and just laying down the basis of writing, I will go more in depth. I am more than willing to listen to your suggestions about what you'd like to learn and I am not opposed to teaching on Google Meet if that is something you are interested in. Lessons will be posted in the form of a Google Slides for now, until I established a better way.
I will have assignments tailored to different genres, so you are able to explore pass your comfort zone. Most prompts will be something flexible so it doesn't matter which genre you make it but others won't be that way. All in which will be shorter stories as longer novels do take quite a chunk of time. Maybe a short novel could be the goal or project for the end of the class. I plan for this to be very diverse and as broad as I can make it in order for everyone to learn something.
Grading is more in the respect as I am your editor, you send me your work and I help you better your writing ability. And if you are enrolled in my class, me being your teacher, I am more than happy to view the work you've already been writing outside of my class if you'd like my input.
