Young Hinata Shōyō lay in a room. The walls were lily white as the strong smell of disinfectant invaded his sense of smell. He continuously sneezed, his nose trying to rid itself of the strong, unwanted smell.

He always had an abnormally dependable sense of smell, which none of his family really understood. He was able to smell food from a large distance with ease, using it to his advantage and helping them get out of tricky situations when roaming the streets of Tokyo trying to find food shops. His favourite smell was the common aroma of air salonpas that was found in volleyball tournaments. He knew this smell from constantly nagging his parents to take him and Natsu to watch the latest volleyball game, which happened every single time he heard of a new one, even if it was months away. He never missed a single volleyball game, especially as they lived in Tokyo.

His sneezing alerted a nurse that was walking past the room. She hastily went to go fetch the doctor assigned to the young boy and his family.

"Hinata Shōyō is finally awake." She announced as she opened the door leading to the staff room, making Doctor Morikawa nearly choke on his drink. His eyes were wide as he rapidly shut his bottle and placed it in his bag, before bounding out of the room and making a beeline straight to Hinata Shōyō's hospital room. He slammed the door open, cringing at the fact he may have startled the poor boy. However, it didn't affect him at all. Shōyō simply stared outside the window, trying to figure out why he was in such a bland room.

The doctor stepped in the room properly and shut the door lightly behind him, a total contrast to how he entered. He grabbed his clipboard from the side as he walked over to Shōyō's bed, sitting on the edge of it. The sudden weight on the end of his bed startled him, and he let out a loud squeak as his head shot to the cause. He saw a man dressed in a white doctor's uniform. He tilted his head in confusion, as he didn't hear the doctor entering the room. Well, he didn't hear anything.

Shōyō watched as the doctor's mouth moved in ways that he assumed were words, but nothing reached his ears. Shōyō blankly stared at the doctor, and watched as the doctor paused. He assumed that he was asked a question. Shōyō tried to speak, but despite not hearing his words, he knew none came out. Instead, he gestured to his ears and shook his head no in hope that the doctor understood.

Honestly, he thought the doctors turned his ears off and forgot to turn them on. He was extremely confused about everything and didn't remember a single thing about why he was in a hospital. He watched as the doctor's eyes widened and the doctor nodded, getting some blank paper that lay at the back of the clipboard and started writing.

When he turned the clipboard for Shōyō to read, it read:

"Hello Mr Hinata. My name is Doctor Morikawa. Do you remember why you were admitted here?"

Shōyō shook his head no, and the doctor nodded, before writing again.

"I see. I think it would be best to tell you.

You were sent to hospital because unfortunately, you and your family were involved in an accident. From what I've heard from your little sister and police, there was a car that was speeding due to a high-speed police car chase and your car was victim to this."

When Shōyō read this, his eyes widened and he quickly got the pen and started writing his response.

"Is Natsu okay? Are mom and dad okay? Can I see them?????"

The doctor's face looked grim as he replied to Shōyō's writing, making Shōyō's heart nearly beat out of his chest. He clasped his hands together, praying for the best as he watched the Doctor scribble down words.

"Natsu is alive and well, thanks to your actions. She said you protected her." He let out a thankful breath, before starting to read the next lines. "Your mother is also alive, but she will be wheelchair-bound permanently. There were major damages to her spine that rendered her lower half immobile. Your father, however, suffered extremely fatal injuries and passed away on impact."
