Zander's POV

I was seated in my office that was in the pack house, looking through papers about other packs whose alphas wished to have an audience with myself. I had an idea that they seek mine and my packs help with protection against the rogue attacks that have been happening more often around them. No rogue has been stupid enough to try and attach my pack, the Blood-Moon pack, because we are the largest and a feared pack in the werewolf world. Everyone knows that if a rogue were to step foot into my territory and they did not have a good enough reason, I would kill them where they stood. It has been this way for six years. It has been that long since a large group of rogues came together and attacked my pack, killing multiple pack members, two of those pack members being my parents, the Alpha and Luna.

Seeing that I had been the only child of the Alpha and Luna, I had to take the Alpha position three years too early at the age of eighteen. My thoughts were rudely interrupted by my office door slamming open, making Midnight, my wolf snap into battle mode. I stood up so fast that the chair I had been sitting in slammed into the wall that was behind me. When I was about to lunge at the person walking in, I noticed that it was one of my childhood best friends and Beta to the pack, Alec that had been the one to walk in while having a large smile on his face. He strutted forward placing himself in front of me

"Sorry about that Zander, I just came to see if you would like to go get some food from Rosa's Diner with Mikel, Nella, Cara, and I."

I looked at him with a scowl on my face, debating if I should go with them or not. Rosa was an elderly woman that was a member of the pack meaning her diner would most likely be filled with other pack members and maybe a few humans. After a few seconds of thinking I made up my mind and started making my way to my office door muttering "I could go for some food," as I passed Alec. I walked out of my office door and down the hall with Alec hot on my trail. When we would pass members of the pack in the hall they bowed their head in respect to their Alpha and Beta which we returned as a sign of respect. When we finally made it outside to the car, I saw that Nella, Mikel and the unranked she-wolf Cara waiting for us.

* Time Skip *

The group and I were sitting at a table that was placed in the back of Rosa's, enjoying our food. They were engrossed in a debate about who would win in a fight; Bigfoot or an alligator. I personally think that bigfoot would win. But after hearing Nella yell at Alec saying the Alligator would win I started zoning out, until I felt myself perk up when I smelt the most intoxicating scent I had ever smelt, it smelt like Vanilla and hint of fresh strawberries. I felt myself take a huge intake of breath through my nose trying to get more of the smell. I knew that my mate was in the diner with me because I could feel my wolf perk up in my head and start pacing back and forth in my mind.

I was so caught up in my thoughts that I had not noticed Nella and Cara stand up from their seats and start to make their way to my now seated mate, who was playing with her phone. I looked her over, trying to take in all of her beauty, I felt my wolf start to get restless knowing that wolves were going near his mate, especially an unranked wolf. I bit back a growl as Nella begun speaking to her.

"Hi, my name is Nella and this is Cara, are you new? My friends and I were just wondering."

When Nella said the word 'friends' she pointed to the table that seated Alec, Mikel, and I. The two who had also been staring at the table of girls. I saw my mate's head turn towards our table. She first scanned over the two boys that were seated next to me, then her eyes landed on me. I saw some hidden emotion in her eyes that made me want to know what was going on up in that beautiful mind of hers. The more I had my eyes on her the harder my wolf would growl from within me telling me 'go to mate', 'mark mate' and things such as that.

After a few seconds, I saw her look away from me because Nella let out soft giggles muttering to Cara "It is her" seeing as they all just seen what just happened between the two of us. I was stuck in my thoughts still looking at my mate, whose name I still have yet to know, thinking about her. I was surprised to finally meet her. Most wolves meet their mate when they are sixteen. I had long given up on trying to find her, I thought the moon goddess had taken my mate from me for all I have done in my life.

I still had a small hope I would meet her, saving myself for when I would meet her to show her that she was going to be the only woman I needed and loved. Her being human would make things much harder than they would have been if she was a werewolf. I just hope when the time comes she does not reject me for who I am or all the things I have done. I saw that I had missed most of their conversation because she had stood up to leave. I saw the girls glance back to me before Nella spoke to me through mind link 'Alpha what should I do? Should we let her leave?'

'Find out her name.'

She gave me a short unnoticed nod before saying

"Oh, well where are you and your family staying? Maybe we can stop by and maybe carpool to school, or just hang with each other sometime? Oh and I forgot to ask what is your name and how old are you?"

I looked at my mate as Nella asked her the questions, seeing a small frown make its way onto her beautiful face. I felt my wolf get uneasy seeing his mate show that small amount of sadness. I watched as she slowly backed her way to the exit, replying

"My names Arielle and I am nineteen."

I saw that she ignored the question about her family. That must have been the one that made her sad. She was about to walk out the door but she was interrupted by the pup

"Where are you and your family staying?"

I saw the frown return to her face but it was much deeper than the one before, as she looked at the two girls she then turned to the table I was seated at, I saw her eyes rank over my body. I felt an overwhelming feeling in the pit of my stomach as she did that and when her sad doe eyes met mine, I sent her a small forced smile because I could feel my wolf trying to take control so he could comfort his mate, blaming the pup for making her sad. She then looked back at the girls before saying

"I don't have a family anymore, but if you must know, I am staying at the motel up the street."

When she was finished speaking, she walked out the door. Before I could stop my wolf from taking control when the two girls returned to our table, but he took over anyways sending a deep throaty growl directed straight at the pup. At the sound of my growl, everyone in Rosa's became deadly silent, hearing their Alpha male let out a warning growl. Luckily for me everyone who was in Rosa's at the moment was a werewolf or mated to one. I noticed that my growl visibly made the pup begin to shake with fear. That is when I heard my wolf's voice, deeper than my own, bellow out

"How dare you! A wolf with no rank making her future Luna feel sadness!"

I heard a few soft pack members gasps as I said the word 'Luna', but all I was focused on was the shaking she-wolf in front of me. I heard her softly repeating "I'm sorry Alpha," Over and over again. I did not even give anyone in the diner a second look before I sent her a deadly growl accompanied with a glare as I ran out the door hearing the bell chime above my head and I ran into the forest that was across the street from the diner.

When I made it deep enough in the woods where no human eyes could see, I shifted into my midnight black wolf. I am glad that I got out of the diner before I did something that I would end up regretting, or should I say I was glad to get out of there before Midnight did something that I would regret. My wolf was already very protective over his mate seeing as we have waited many years for her. I promised myself she would be the last person I let into my life, Hopefully I could keep that promise... But I have a feeling many things are going to change for myself and my pack.
