I haven't seen any stories about this yet so I decided to give it a try.
I may not be able to update often because of homework and school but...
Dutchess already knew who the growling belonged to. It was her brother Chief.
"You make me sick." He said then was literally sick. "I've seen cats with more balls than you dogs-STOP LICKING YOUR WOUNDS!" He then started shouting at Duke who was licking his injuries and just looked around.
Duchess was giggling and blushing heavily under her fur but nobody noticed.
Chief goes to boss. "You're hungry: kill something and eat it."
He then goes to Duke. "You're sick: take a long nap."
He finally goes to King. "You're cold: dig a hole in the ground and burry yourself."
At that point Duchess decided to step in. "What my brother is trying to say is nobody should give up." She said timidly.
"That's right." Chief agreed. "You're Rex; you're King; you're Duke; you're Boss; you're Duchess and I'm Chief. We're a pack of scary, indestructible alpha dogs. You're talking like a bunch of housebroken.... Pets."
"You both don't understand. Uh how could you you're-" Rex started to say but was interrupted by Chief who saw his sister was about to cry.
"Go ahead say it we're strays yeah."
Rex, Duke, King and Boss looked away awkwardly.
"Are you okay?" Duke whispered to Duchess.
"Yeah I'm fine." she lied.
Duchess always wondered what having an owner would feel like since she wanted to forget the one time she and Chief did.
The then heard a clang of metal and saw a female dog called Nutmeg who was Duchess's friend who occasionally teases Duchess about her crush on Duke.

She then stares at the group before leaving.
"How does she keep her fur so clean there's no shampoo on Trash Island?" King asked.
"Duchess how do you keep your fur so clean?" Duke asked Dutchess.
Then all eyes (except Chief's) were on Dutchess.
"I just try so stay out of anything sticky and I groom myself." She answered casually.
