I come back to the table a few minutes later after Lucas does. At this point, my brain's already too foggy and hazy from the medicine to even consider whether or not that's suspicious. Despite being basically drugged up, I still pointedly avoided looking at Lucas in fear of laughing at his damp hair and shirt.
When he refused to get out earlier even if I asked and gave him two chances to do so, he ended up having a handful of water splashed to his face.
Twice.
I risked a quick glance at him, immediately biting my lip and hiding my smile behind a hand. His shirt isn't even that damp, he's fucking exaggerating.
"Lucas honey why is your shirt wet?" Nala asks, frowning and leans forward to touch the said damp shirt.
"I splashed some water to my face" He replies, tone dead and just done. I bit my lip harder to stop myself from actually laughing out loud. I can feel his eyes on me, heated in a glare.
"And missed" I couldn't hold it back. I let out a snort. It wasn't that loud to my own ears but it was loud enough for my mother to scowl at me. I mentally prepared myself for a lecture about how girls shouldn't make that noise because it's unladylike and not nice yada yada yada, but she settles on giving me a pointed look.
For a second or two, I considered snorting even louder just to spite her but decided against it since I just want this shit to be done and over with. Tragically I still have some stuffs to do with regards to my recent fuck up and I want to get that done as soon as possible.
I can't wait to go back home and down some sleeping pills to knock me dead until I have to do said stuffs.
All is peaceful for a while that the idea of dozing off to the rest of this meeting sounded nice when-
"Oh right, I already submitted the documents for the marriage" My eyes snaps open.
I didn't panic at first because Lucas mentioned back then that he had everything under control, but my eyes lands on Lucas who's looking at both our mothers with wild eyes.
Then the panic starts to sink in.
"What do you mean by that?" He asks his mother who's busy arranging her stuff to even give him her full attention.
"It means everything's set to go sweetie"
"We both submitted your legal documents and they're being processed as we speak" She finally looks at him.
"The wedding will take place in a month from now, just a heads up" If she notices the way the color drains from Lucas' face, she doesn't comment on it.
Nala directs her attention to me, smiling before grabbing my mother's hand to pull her up as she goes.
"There's two orders of baked salmon coming, everything's already paid. You'll both be given a schedule of events sometime this week" She pulls my mother closer to wrap her arms around her.
How and when did these two get so close is still a mystery.
"See you at the wedding!" She calls at the exit, waving at us before disappearing. Despite the background music and numerous chatter noises, I feel them all fade into nothing.
I continued staring at the empty plate in front of me, mind somewhere far away until Lucas' chair scrapes across the wooden flooring.
"That godforsaken woma-" He decided against it to finish that sentence and just abruptly stands up to leave. I blinked slowly at his retreating figure.
A part of me is somewhat regretting taking four pills in such a short amount of time because I'm not reacting the right way to this situation like he is. But my mind's just too out of it to be bothered right now.
