*I made up the crew chief and spotter in this one.*
Bailey's POV
Well...today is the day. The day where I go and race my first race. And it's at Daytona, first race of the year. Oh man am I nervous. But boy am I excited. I'm the new driver of the 98 Ford for Kyle Busch Motorsports. Yeah, I grew up watching racing. Not actually racing, and Hallie thought it would be a good idea since I've had some experience in dirt track racing to sign me up with Kyle Busch. I looked at the time and realized I had to get going, I had a Qualifying in an hour.Hals🤪🤞
Wear light weigh leggings and a tank top for your fire suit today. Thanks Hals. That's her nickname. I grabbed my keys after getting ready and drove to the track and went towards my garage.
"Hey Girlie." That was my crew Chief, Alan Smith.
"Hey Alan." I said, taking a deep breath.
"Nervous?"
"Yeah." I let out a nervous laugh.
"I saw what you could do in the dirt series. I saw what you did yesterday and last week for practice. Today is the real deal. Just focus on Qualifying for now, alright?"
"Yeah."
"Here's your fire suit. Had it made especially for you." He says, handing me a Montain Dew Fire suit.
"Thanks Alan." I smiled, looking at my name embroidered on the belt area. I quickly put it on and zipped it up, then doing the velcro at the top.
"You look so pretty!!" Hallie squeals, running up to me and hugging me. I laughed as she spun me around.
"Not as pretty as you!" I laughed as she set me down.
"Lookin good fellow rookie." Zane smiles, walking up to us.
"You excited?" Hallie asks.
"Duh! Just nervous. I mean, what if I wreck someone or myself?"
"You won't. You'll be fine. No one goes for the rookies. Everyone underestimates us." Zane whispered the last part, chuckling.
"Gavin! Let's go qualify." Alan says walking up to us.
"Coming! Bye guys! Good luck!" I said running after Alan. I was in awe at how awesome my helmet looked. It was green and black with the mountain dew mountain on it. And on the back was my signature in silver.
"Looks pretty dope." Alan laughs, trying to be cool. I giggled and set it in the car. I got in and strapped myself in as the tire changer, I think his name was Joe, put up the netting. Finally my helmet came on and my Spotter, Jeff was testing the radio.
"Is this workin?" He asks.
"Yes sir." I smiled at how dorky I was being right now.
"Take it easy today. First qualifying, we don't need to be at the front. Maybe try for that top 15 we were talking about?" Alan's voice filled my ears.
"10-4!" I smiled.
"Go ahead and flip the switch." I did as I was told and the engine roared to life. My heart beating loudly. I wasnt nervous anymore. I was excited.
"Slow off pit road." I started slow and got around to the back stretch.
"Show us what you got girlie." Alan laughs.
"10-4." I said with confidence and ran down the back stretch and into turn 3. I took the corners semi slow and rounded turn 4 on the low side and down the front stretch near the wall so I could get a big run. I didn't try too hard, but I was still giving my best.
