Author's Note:

Hi there, guys.....lightbeforedarkness and gloworange13 here! 

Before we published any parts of the book, we thought that a little bit about the 4 main characters was needed to clear up any questions about how they got to where they are in Chapter 1. The Prologue will be uploaded shortly afterwards, and will feature the emperor during the time that the story takes place, but with him living 30 years prior to the start of Chapter 1.

Ivy- She's a very secretive girl: after being at the Academy for half her life, most of the people there still don't know anything about her, besides her name and that she's not a girl to mess with. Now 16, she is beginning to unravel. She nearly killed the school's leading defense techniques teacher while in weapons training, and people do not think that it was an accident. What they do not know is that Ivy has a secret that she'd kill to keep, along with many others. Arrested for attempted murder, she seems to care very little for the charges but is becoming more and more unstable - and dangerous.

Callie- She is a single child, with parents dedicated to the emperor. Wanting her to become more mature, they send her to the Academy to become a model citizen. While there, she began to loose sight of everything that she grew up believing because of the horror she saw on a daily basis. She wants to hate her parents but can't quite do it, and in turn, blames and hates herself. She was arrested after publicly offending the emperor.

Derek- He's a hard-core boy who feels he already lost everything and yet still has everything to lose. He lost his mother two years ago in a riot gone awry, and he hasn't seen his father since his seventh birthday. With nowhere to go, he was sent to the school and was torn from the only family he had left: his younger sister. He became consumed with the urge to find and protect her, and this has caused him to become very protective of others. Now 17, he attempted to flee the school with a plan to find her, but he was arrested after being caught by the authorities.

Wyatt- He's a small town boy, recruited by the school for his brilliance in both technology and his inventions. The empire hoped to reclaim their technological advantages that were lost in the war, and in turn removed Wyatt from his home, along with several other boys like him. He dreams of someday returning home, but it's just not a reality. However, he quickly becomes obsessed with his job. Soon, the government sees how much he has improved in so little time, and fears that he could expose secrets worth killing for. Arrested under false charges, Wyatt is at a loss for what to do.
