CHAPTER THREE

Three years have passed and a lot has happened in between. I just got redeployed to a strange place I've never been before. I still thought about Olive all through the journey and wished she could just appear to me. I reported for documentation on the next day even though I was at liberty of taking the day off. I already lost hopes of seeing her again. Though I was still struggling to reduce how often I thought about her. I closed early just to go on a short tour around the town. People around seem to adore military personnels. I regretted going around in my uniform on that day. It was actually a very lovely town. More developed than most other towns I've been deployed to.
I settled in quite well and hoped to be in the town long enough for me to enjoy my stay. I made a few friends whom I totally enjoyed their company and was always looking forward to the next day. It was a weekend and the one closest to me among my new friends (we called him Sunny) invited me to his family house. I dressed casually and went to get packs of popcorn for the family as we were supposed to watch a movie together. Watching movies together on Saturday nights was considered a tradition in his family.

On reaching Sunny's family house, I knocked for a while and there was no response. Then after a few seconds, the door opened, then there was the prettiest girl I've ever seen in a long time. My brain remained constant for 5 seconds until I heard her say, with a beautiful smile on her face, "Sunny's friend right?" then I snapped back to reality and said yeah, and you are?" But she ignored and said "come on in, he already told us you'd be arriving soon." I followed her inside like a lost puppy, it was a very big house. Sunny never mentioned being from a wealthy family. "Have a seat please, he'll be with you in a moment, until then, do feel at home." She said with that same smile that stops moving objects, like my heartbeat. I watched her walk elegantly through the dining room, until she disappeared into another room, then I turned around to my friend standing right behind me."That's my little sister you're staring at. And whatever it is you are thinking, better stop, she's a 'No-go' area for any of my friends." I smiled and said, "she's a very pretty girl, but I wasn't thinking of anything so chill brother." I think he sensed that I lied about not thinking anything but he said; "That's better. I can't have any of my friends going out with my little sister. She means the world to me, and I can do crazy things to anyone who tries to mess around with her." Then I said to him, "Easy with the threats bro. I got your unnecessary message." He smiled, but I could tell that he meant it.

Sunny wasn't the talking type. He's always all about business. He's a 'Do whatever needs to be done and move' kind of guy. We got talking, and his family members started coming in one after the other, and he did the introduction while we exchanged pleasantries. The little sister was the last to show up and he said, "I believe you already met Jenny. Well Jenny, meet Bobby." She waved and said "hi Bobby", with that venomous smile which I struggled not to get lost in this time.

We spent a little time talking with some of his family members, especially his cousins and his mom. I tried as much as I could to ignore Jenny, even though our eyes met on a few occasions, we made conversations with each other without words being said. I wished we could be alone so I can speak with her and get to know her better. Maybe this is my chance to forget about Olive and finally move on. Though I still find myself wondering where she is, or how she's doing with her cancer and all. "Come on, it's time to head to the viewing room." Jenny said, in such a lovely tone that I started to think she was doing all that on purpose just to seduce me into falling for her. I wish I could tell her she didn't have to try that hard for I've already fallen head-over-heels for her.

We headed to the viewing room and the movie was started. We all had our drinks and popcorn by the side, except for Jenny, she had a bucket of ice-cream. We had so much fun and I really enjoyed the movie night. Half-way into the movie, Sunny dozed off, so I had the opportunity to exchange stares with Jenny without the fear of him catching me in the act. She smiled on few occasions she caught me staring. The kind of smile that says 'he's hooked already'. She stood up on few occasions and went in for whatever reasons I couldn't tell. The third time she stood up to go in, I quickly followed and acted like I needed to use the bathroom. I met her halfway and she stopped and turned around smiling, and to my greatest surprise, she said; "So I had to leave the viewing room for the third time before you got the clue? I know you've been dying to be alone with me, so, what's on your mind? And quickly before my brother notices our absence. I know about the warning he gave to you concerning me." I was dumbfounded and confused at the same time then I gathered my sanity in one piece and said; "I know you've heard this probably a million times before, but you're such an extremely beautiful person on the outside, and I would really love a chance to know what you are like on the inside, if that's okay with you." She smiled and said; "Yes I've heard it before, but not like this. I don't know why but It just sounds different and new coming from you. Thanks for the compliment anyway. And about the 'getting to know me' part, I doubt if that would be a good idea because there's this guy in my school I'm currently in a relationship with, even though it doesn't seem serious yet, I promised to give him a chance and see how it goes. But for what it's worth, I think you're handsome and I like you too. I just wish it was on a different circumstance."
