Childhood Days

I had never paid much attention to the blonde who had joined my class, too caught in wallowing in self-hatred over my lost friendship. He seemed nice enough and while I felt like his words and smile felt forced, it wasn't like that was particularly uncommon in the macabre performance of the royal court. In fact, he seemed to fit perfectly, gaining many friends in a short period. However, it seems like the new Joestar had taken a particular interest in me. A century later, stuck inside on a particularly thunderous night, I would ask him why.

The man only chuckled in that infuriating manner of his and told me, "I could only wonder what kind of person dear Jojo's only friend was. I thought you could be a danger to me and wished to either sway you to my side or get rid of you. Yet you did that all on your own, didn't you? Watching your depressing form was almost too pitiful to see." He only laughed when I tried to stab him in the throat in retaliation.

I couldn't imagine the maelstrom that would come when the seemingly normal teen stopped in front of my desk one day . "Lucky, right? I don't wish to overstep my bounds, but, are you quite alright?"

My lids and limbs felt heavy, yet I managed to prop my head up on my arms. "I'm quite alright Dio. Just a bit upset I suppose, there is quite a bit of work that I have to go through for my trip, I'll be in an apprenticeship with a rather large trading company and have to pass some tests to do so." It wasn't a complete lie, I did have quite a bit of trouble with the almost impossible entrance tests that only served to compound my problems.

"Tests? Is your family name not enough to get you anywhere?"

"Hoh no, it's all because my family-" I caught myself from launching into a rant, smothering my sardonic smile. Dio's eyes shine, raising an elegant brow for me to continue. "This is all for me to show that-" I held myself from blurting out 'to show that I was a deserving heir'. I was attending school as a regular member of the Holiday family and mentally beat myself up at nearly revealing myself so easily. "-that I'm deserving of such an opportunity. Thus, I have to do much more than any other applicant in order to prove myself to myself to not only the company but my family. Well, I'll have a lot on my plate in the future, so I suppose this is simply preparation."

"You suppose?" Both words have a different emphasis, both of which form cracks on the lock on my tongue.

"It's my duty as a member of the Holidays, what I feel isn't all that important."

Dio hummed. "I think they do." He had taken a seat on the desk in front of mine. "I believe that you're putting to much pressure on yourself. I'll hazard a guess that you've yet to tell anyone else about this." It's a statement rather than a question, I refused to meet his golden eyes and that was enough of an answer for him. "Truly." He sighs. "I realize that this is a difficult time for you. If you can't mention this to your family, talk to your friends. And if you, for whatever reason, have troubles with them," he rises from his seat and leans over my desk. "Try starting with me. I truly do wish to help you."

His honey gold eyes were half lidded and his words dripped sweetly. Even now I can remember clearly the hint of the a smile on his face dyed in the sunset. I had found myself stunned and shot back in my seat, only managing to sputter out some inane self-deprecating thing, a meaningless platitude, for I had long since succumbed to his charm. I don't remember what he said then but all too quickly he had stood back and made his way to the door.

"I'll be seeing you." And with that he was gone, leaving me to stew in my own confused thoughts and feelings for what must've been at least an hour.

I do believe that most schools still have clubs after school, correct? I'm sure that the ones you have now may be different, but it was common for young aristocrats to use sports as a social play. The ideal man was handsome, well educated, and fit and excelling in sports would at least prove the latter. as part of a time honored tradition, I was forced into joining the fencing club, a fitting space for the child of a family that produced so many royal guards. While I'd have rather been in the horse riding club, at least we got to stay inside. Going about in the cold British weather in clothing tight enough to choke wasn't appealing to me for multiple reasons.
