It's morning as I slowly wake up, a bit miserable, and grab my journal and a pen, turning to an empty page. I sigh softly and think of nothing to write. I set my journal back on my bedside table and get out of bed, heading to the bathroom.
I walk into the bathroom to see Vicki brushing her teeth.
"I'm-- I'm sorry, I'm almost done," she says with her mouth full of toothpaste.
"It's-- It's ok. Take your time," I say, shaking my head and close the bathroom door.
. . .
I make my way downstairs to the kitchen and point up as I whisper to Jenna as she's sitting down at the table.
"Jenna," I say and she looks at me. "Are you aware of what's going on upstairs?"
"Uh-huh," she says, smiling.
"And you have no objection?" I ask as I get some cereal and start making my breakfast.
"He could be craftier about it, at least make an effort to sneak her in and out. Oh, and just so you know, I won't be home for dinner," she says, smiling more.
"Oh, so you're actually going to do it. You're gonna go out with Logan," I tease her, laughing and smiling.
"I'm going to show up and torture him, yes," she says and I chuckle. "And have you heard from Stefan?"
"Not since he left that very vague message three days ago," I say and impersonate Stefan's brooding voice. "'Hi, um, Ethan, I, um, have something I have to do. I'll, uh, explain in a few days.'"
"Haven't you called him?"
"Nope. Don't plan on doing it, either."
"And you're ok with everything?" she asks and I slam the milk carton down a little bit.
"No, I'm not ok with any of it. But I'm not gonna cry about it, either. You know, I was going to write in my journal this morning and then I thought, what am I going to write? Honestly, I'm not gonna be one of those pathetic guys whose world stops spinning because of some other guy," I say, pouring my milk and take a bite of my cereal.
"Ok then."
"I'll be fine," I assure her.
. . .
I'm at school by my locker with Bonnie and we see Caroline passing out flyers about the Sexy Studs Car Wash tomorrow night to help raise money for the school. Only Stefan, Damon, and possibly even Bonnie, knew what happened with Tanner at the football game.
"Unbelievable," I say, looking at Bonnie. "It's like nothing happened."
"She's in denial," Bonnie says and I look back over at Caroline, who is smiling with her friends, giggling.
"Hey," Stefan says from behind me and I turn around to look up at him.
"Hey, uh, you know, I gotta go, um, be somewhere right now," Bonnie says and we see her walk off.
"I'm so sorry I haven't called," he says and I sigh softly, smiling at him.
"No worries. I'll live."
"I was dealing with Damon."
"And did you? Deal with Damon?" I ask and he nods.
"Yes. Yeah."
"For four days?" I ask, giving him a fake smile and cross my arms at him.
"You have every right to be upset with me. But can I explain it all to you? Please."
