So, as the title says, this is gonna explain the universe for this story. This universe is actually quite different than the original universe.
1. Soul gems aren't the girls actual souls, just the source of their power as a magical girl. If the soul gem breaks, the girl just loses her powers as a magical girl. The girls get to keep the results of their wish after their soul gem breaks, just not their powers that came from the wish.
2. Families of the magical girl will know if their child is a magical girl. If the girl becomes one, Kyubey will give the girl some time to tell her family herself before telling them himself. This is so they can set a time for them come home at night and if they don't come back, they can go looking for them or ask if Kyubey can look for them if they suspect their child is in a witches labyrinth.
3. A way to know if a magical girl is dead or turned into a witch, is by looking for their soul gem. Since soul gems aren't the souls of magical girls, they're the way to tell what happened to the girl. If the girls soul gem is a lighter color and duller than normal, then that means that the girl has died. If the soul gem is a darker color and cloudier than normal, then the girl has turned into a witch. The soul gems are used to put on memorials of fallen magical girls.
4. It's normal for police to patrol around late at night looking for magical girl soul gems and return them to the family or to the girl that lost it.
5. Magical girls soul gems have their initials on them so they can find them easily.
6. Magical girls can't feel the magic of their soul gems if they are too far away. Magical girls bodies don't stop working if they're too far away from their soul gem.
