Jade
Everything was dark. Any sound I could make out seemed so far away, or just so quiet. I strained to hear anything, see anything. I wanted to know if this was a dream, or if I was even still alive. I suddenly became aware of the pain that seemed to grip my entire body, as my senses slowly returned.
I could hear the steady beep of something, so I tried to focus on it. I just needed to be able to pull myself out of whatever state I was in, and wake up. I then heard somebody mumbling to themself, a male, but I couldn't make out his words. Over the burning pain, I somehow managed to feel something, maybe a hand, press gently on my forehead.
As I became more aware, I heard the beep slowly speed up. That's when it hit me. I was in a hospital bed being looked after. But from what? Why was I here? My head hurt even more when I tried to think back to what would have happened.
The voice became clear enough to make out, "Blood pressure is better. Slightly feverish. Heart rate increasing to a healthy number."
The voice was familiar, but it took a few moments for me to process it. I had only heard it a couple times. Why was my father coming to mind? This wasn't him. My father, the wedding, poisen. This was Austin, the one who saved his life after he was poisened at my wedding.
Mustering up my strength, I opened my eyes slightly to a blinding light. Knowing it was just the lights in the room, I tried to keep them open just as slits. I could see the machines all around me, hooked up to me, while Austin was busy writing something down.
Trying to gather even more energy, I was able to whisper, "Austin."
Discarding his paperwork on the chair, he shot to my side, "Alpha Jade, are you awake?"
Closing my eyes again to focus on speaking, I murmured in a hoarse voice, "Yeah, but what happened?"
"I'll tell you later." He promised, checking my vitals again, "You need to save your energy right now."
"Please..." I took a shaky breath, "Waiting will just make me use more energy trying to remember."
Sighing, then taking a final look at the monitors, he began explaining what Kyle had done. He stabbed me, then left me for dead in the water. Now I could almost clearly remember the little fist fight leading to it, but not the actual incident. Maybe that was for the best. Austin then informed me about the poisen, and who did it. The doctor who had planned on covering up my father's poisening. I had to take a few steady breaths to calm myself and save energy.
"I have some bad news, Alpha." He said after a few moments of silence, then hesitated, "Actually, forget I said that. It can wait."
I wanted to protest, but it couldn't have been that important if he'd willingly keep it from his Alpha. I just hoped it was something small that could be fixed.
At that moment, I heard a few people rush into the hospital calling for a doctor. I could make out the panicked voice of Samantha as Austin stepped out. I couldn't hear too many words, but I'm sure I heard the name Destiny. Listening to the hurried footsteps pass by my room before entering another, I wasn't sure what to think.
"Sammy." I mind linked.
"Jade?" I could hear a mix of fear, sadness and excitement from her, "How are you?"
"About as good as someone can be after being stabbed and poisened." I noticed a smile form on my lips before realizing it didn't take much strength.
There was silence for a few minutes as I tried to listen to the faint, muffled voices in the next room. Just as I was about to give up, the door opened, then closed after a set of feet came in. I didn't feel like wasting time trying to open my eyes again, so I just waited to hear who it was.
