It wasn't long until I awoke once more, nearly jumping out of Zorro's saddle at the sound of a whinny and a gunshot. Alejandro yelled something in alarm and I opened my eyes the very moment Bernardo fell from his horse. At first, I thought he had gotten shot, but when he leapt back to his feet, grabbed his horse's reins and ran for cover, I knew that he had most likely just fallen off when dodging a bullet.
Zorro brought Tornado and I to some cover behind a boulder near Bernardo and quickly dismounted. "Stay here!"
"What is happening?" I questioned, heart racing and still somewhat dazed from sleep.
"They found us!" Zorro told me, eyes wide. I had never seen him look so terrified in all the time I had spent with him. If Zorro was worried, then everyone else definitely should be.
Also, if Zorro was this worried, then he must know that if he fights them alone, he may not survive. I took in a deep breath and slid off of Tornado, unsheathing my sword and running out into the battle field. Zorro and Alejandro were in a sword fight with three men while the one who had shot at them was trying to aim for someone to shoot, but hesitated because he might hit one of his own. While he was distracted, I snuck round through the surrounding bushes so that I might sneak up behind him and catch him by surprise.
When I arrived where he should have been, he was no where to be seen. Now confused, I was going to search for him, but he found me first. He jumped out from behind a rock and swung the butt of his gun at me, attempting to hit me in the head. Because he screamed his war cry, it gave me enough time to turn around and dodge his attack before he took that fatal blow. Falling to the ground, the man jumped on top of me and pinned me to the ground, eyes full of fury. "You have caused enough trouble for the Velvet Swan. If he did not want you alive, I would gladly kill you right here."
"How does everyone know who I am?" I asked myself under my breath, then glared up at my enemy. "Seriously, what have I done to the Velvet Swan to make him hate me so?"
"You exist. Is that not enough?"
What on Earth was he talking about? I didn't even know this crazy Velvet Swan man, and he didn't even know me! I was just some random girl Pablo had been following one night... right? Wasn't I just a random girl the Velvet Swan wanted to marry? Or did he actually know me?
"Zorro and I will stop the Velvet Swan," I glared. In a quick motion, I shoved him off of me and snatched up my weapon once again. The man just stayed on the ground, staring at me. I was about to make a witty remark about how lame this guy was, but froze when a creepy smile spread across his face.
"No one can stop the Velvet Swan," he replied.
Before I could process what he said, someone came up behind me and whacked me on the back of the head with a blunt object. My vision instantly went black as I fell over, motionless.

When I finally came to, I sat up in a flash, ready to fight. I quickly realized I no longer had my rapier, and I was no longer out in the California hills. Now, I was in a small, dark room, lying on a strange bed with the worst headache I had ever had in my life. "Where am I?"
"You're safe... for now," a female voice came out of nowhere.
Only then did I notice that a young girl around my age was sitting in a chair next to my bed. "Who are you?" I asked, scooting away from her in confusion and astonishment.
"Your're in the Velvet Swan's house," she continued, ignoring my last question. The girl wore an expensive looking green dress. No doubt she came from a rich family. "I would help you escape, but he is much too clever. He knows I don't agree with what he does so he posted guards outside your door and below the window."
