His beautiful long eyelashes began to tremble, a sign that he's about to wake up. He could feel the comforting blanket cradling him back to sleep, but the other part of him pulled him away from the drowsiness. Gabriel's eyelids slowly opened, two pairs of pink orbs stared at the ceiling for a while. He remained unmoving on the bed as memories from last night rushed in inside his head.
Indeed, something happened last night. First of all, he woke up from a week of coma after tasting Lady Chelsea's burning wrath. After that, he had a little dramatic fight with his friend. Although Beryl gave him a cold shoulder when they first met, he wouldn't have thought that she'd do anything just to take care of him while he's black out. And in order to repay all of her kindness, he have decided to make her something delicious to eat. He got out of the mansion to gather ingredients from a certain place and came back unnoticed.
He was silently preparing the dishes when his younger brother, Chester, came to the scene which almost gave him a heart attack. Everything is nerve-wrecking throughout the entire time they were together at the kitchen. He actually didn't expect that he'd be the younger boy's chef that night.
Rewinding the events, he never had the chance to decline Chester's order when the boy added: "I don't accept no as an answer. There is no valid reply to what I've said."
Gabriel couldn't do anything. Yet on the bright side, he clearly got the child's favor, right? This must be the fresh start for a new relationship between the brothers. With this change of the novel's storyline, he'd be able to avoid the red flags. With the possible scenario of gaining Chester's trust, he's a bit worried of how things would end up. Yes, it may be a good news to have the boy on his team, but it'll be a bad news if something worse from getting killed by Chester happens.
The white-haired boy chuckled, gently laying the back of his hand on his bandaged forehead. It's early in the morning and he's already imagining tons of stuffs. He just came from a long comatose and an unexpected interaction with a certain someone to be thinking this hard. Closing his ethereal pink pair of eyes, a flashback of occurrence appeared on his mind.
"Then... any of my response is useless?" He asked, feeling hopeless in this tight situation.
The blond boy arched his eyebrow while his bare hands picked up a new pie. "Are my words not clear enough for you to understand?"
Gabriel shook his head, letting out a small laugh. He averted his vision from his brother and poured water on the boy's glass. "You made it very clear, I will no longer question anything."
Chester sent him a short inspecting stare before looking away. He gestured the older male to join him eat because it was somewhat awkward to have him stand there while he gobbled everything. Gabriel hesitated at first, but when he received the younger's threatening aura, he sat down and ate together with him.
The atmosphere is surprisingly calm, it made Gabriel's heart felt at ease. As he spent plenty of minutes with this young arrogant man, he can tell that Chester is actually a soft one. Maybe all of those cold and savage actions are just his walls, keeping anyone from entering to damage him. In this strange and new world, those who are strong are admired and envied. Show any weakness, and they'd trample you without a second thought. Chester must've been taught to be like that, let them know you're superior and they'd bow down to you.
If that was the case, Gabriel pitied him. Being born as a prodigy, Chester must reach everyone's expectations. It seems like he never got to enjoy his childhood days until now. All he do is study, practice magic, sleep, attend private classes, and repeat the cycle. It's absolutely insane for an eight-year old kid.
When they were done eating everything, Gabriel felt guilty for not leaving something behind for Beryl. Gabriel originally made apple pies and spaghetti specifically for Beryl, but instead, all of it were devoured by him and the mischievous Chester. He sighed, picking up the dirty dishes and went to the sink to wash them. His ears perked up as he listened to the other boy's quiet footsteps. He imagined Chester exiting the kitchen, but who would've thought that he'd stick next to him and watch him clean the plates?
