Mia is allowed to travel with Bella in the ambulance to the hospital, even though Bella's protests that she's fine, and that she doesn't need to go to the hospital. Mia's head is reeling with what Bella told her in the parking lot- it sounds so ridiculous, but Mia finds herself believing her friend wholeheartedly.
Mia is sitting next to Bella, holding her hand as Bella's blood pressure is getting taken in the hospital. Bella feels fine, but she knows her friend is worried, and likes physical reassurance, so she offered her her hand in the ambulance and Mia hadn't let go since.
The urgent care ward's doors bang out as Charlie strides through. The two girls look up as he approaches them.
"Bella, you okay?" he says, relief filling his voice. As he makes his way over, he spots Tyler on the bed next to Bella, and Mia suspects that he's been fully filled in on the details of the situation, because he points to Tyler and says to him in a firm voice, "You and I are gonna have a talk."
Mia catches Bella rolling her eyes at her dad's immediate 'police chief' voice at the boy, and stifles a laugh.
"You alright?" Charlie repeats.
"I'm fine, Dad," Bella placates. "Calm down."
Tyler looks tormented as he pleads again, "I'm sorry Bella, I tried to stop." He'd been saying it since the accident had happened.
"I know, it's okay." Bella says, sending Tyler a reassuring look, but Charlie is shaking his head.
"No," he says strongly. "It sure as hell is not okay."
"Dad, it wasn't his fault."
"You could have been killed. You understand that?"
Bella raises her eyebrows, "Yes," she says. "But I wasn't, so..."
Charlie frowns. "You can kiss your license goodbye." He turns to snap at Tyler, who bows his head.
"God, he's so over the top," Bella mutters under her breath to Mia, whilst Charlie is distracted talking to Dr. Cullen, who had just walked in.
"He's protective," Mia reasons. "I wish I had a dad like that."
Bella scrunches her nose up. She knows all about Mia's quote-unquote tragic past, and luckily they'd gotten over the whole 'feeling sorry for Mia' stage pretty quickly. "You can have him if you'd like." Bella jokes.
"I've this one Jackie," Dr. Cullen says to the nurse, as Mia and Bella look up at him. Mia's eyebrows shoot up her forehead- he's almost as beautiful as his foster son.
"Isabella Swan," He says, flicking through her chart, before he notices Mia sitting next to Bella. "And who's this?"
"Oh," Mia says. "I'm Mia Blackthorn- I'm just here for moral support."
