Twisted Grace (#1 in the Golden series)

Chapter Four: Phrase

I wake up in agony, my side stings like fire. I look around me to find my brother. "Jaze?" I say through our link. As I wait for a repose I notice that I'm in a cage.

I whine a little and hear a growl, turning around I stare into the golden eyes of a wolf. "Agh" I says while trying to get away from the wolf.

He regards me then sits and tilts his head, some how I know that's a sign that he is not a threat. I watch as he settles near me in his cage.

"sis? are you ok? where are we?" Jaze asks me.

"Yes I'm fine, I'm in a cage where are you?" I reply.

"I'm in a cage too but I can't move." He tells me, I look around harder and find another lone cage at the other side the of the room.

"I think I see you bro" I say in our link. I scramble to the front of my cage to see Jaze in his.

Just as I'm about to speak out The door swings open "great the females awake" A snide voice says. I look to the wolf who is silently snarling, Two people enter the room, one female and the other male.

"Yes now the fun can begin" The woman replies to what the man had said.

Trembling in fear I look at them, they are smiling as they come towards my cage.The wolf turns to me with pity in his eyes.

The woman opens my cage and I cringe against the back, as she grabs me the wolf leaps at her. And she drops me "stupid wolf" She snarls at him, dragging me out of my cage, the wolf try's to get out to help me.

I yelp when the man brings out a whip, out of the corner of my eyes I see Jaze starts to get up. "Phrase" The woman says. What do does she mean I ask myself but come up blank.

The wolf is now a young man, about the age of Toby. Werewolf, she wants me to be one of those I tell myself.

The whip creaks through the air and lands on my side, I yell out in pain. Fire races across my body and shivers wreak havoc on my body.

Just as he whip me again I feel my bones twisting to fit the shape of the wolf, fur runs up my body and with a pained cry I phrase into my wolf form.

I'm so weak I can hardly stand but I do and lunge at the man. A gun shot sounds and I whine in pain as it hits my leg. As the bullet works it's way through me I pass out.

I wake up to the screams of my brother and the frantic whispers of the boy next to my cage.I groan which sounds like a growl in wolf form, the boy backs away but keeps watch over me.

I realize Jaze's scream have cut off and I leap up when they open my cage "get in" the woman says and Jaze limps in.

I sit down and he does the same "what are we going to do?" He asks me.

"I don't know, Just heal for now then well will get out of here" I say taking charge of the situation. The boy looks at us then says "You two are alphas".

An hour later and I decide to try and get back to human form, the boy helps me and hands me some rags to cover myself. Jaze goes to sleep for a while and I start to think of a plan.

As I think of a plan I start to fall asleep, my dreams are filled with pain and running through some woods.
