Ok, so I wrote this way back when I was in eighth grade and now I'm a sophomore in high school that totally forgot about this in the first place. Luckily my writing skills have improved somewhat, at least my ability to use contractions has and because of that, I've decided to revisit this and rewrite it to my liking now. The first two chapters are a little slow but it sets the scene for the rest of the book.
Jack's POV
"Ready to go?" Hazel asks. I jump slightly as she pops up while I was deep in thought and nod. My mom and I are driving her home since her parents are watching her little brother play basketball.
I get lost in my head again.
"Penny for your thoughts?" She says in an exaggerated British accent. I laugh a little as I think of how to answer.
"Oh, I'm just trying to remember how Puto was discovered. You like space right? Do you know?" I reply.
"Oh yeah! I just watched a NOVA documentary with my dad last night about it. There was this guy whose job was cleaning telescopes and In his spare time, he would look in it to try and figure out what was creating a disturbance in Neptune's gravitational orbit. He called it Planet X until a well-studied and determined year later, he discovered a faint celestial body moving among the stars. That's how you can tell if it is a star or planet; if you can see it moving in a different pattern than the other stars. Oh and-"
I raise a questioning eyebrow. And I thought I was a nerd.
"You really have to tell me to shut up about these things, otherwise I'm not going to stop talking about them."
I smile and tell her, "Wow what a nerd."
She rolls her eyes. "Oh, you're one to talk. Oh! I also tried out that new space game you told me to play, Outer planets. It's so good!
"Right!? I knew you would like it," I exclaim excitedly. I've been telling her about this game for weeks.
She and I reach the car and get in. We talk about Star Wars and Harry Potter the whole ride and I love it. She asks me questions about the Mandalorian and I ask her questions about the Cursed Child, it's just overall a very relieving feeling to have another geeky friend. Once we reach her house we say goodbye to each other and my mom and I make sure she gets in all right and then we head to our house.
I get a text from my friend, Aiden. I roll my eyes when I see it's about Hazel. I know he has a crush on her no matter what he tries to say against it. I don't want to get into it now with him but I decided to ask him about it at youth group next week.
I'm writing this at almost 4 am so maybe I'll be able to tell when I wake up later. Hopefully y'all enjoyed though!
