My alarm clock rings. I woke up and saw that it was already five in the morning.

April 18?

That date seems familiar.

Oh! It's my best friend's birthday! How could I forget about it?

I hurriedly got up from my bed and decided to bake a cake for Yuuji.

Yuuji and I have been best friends since middle school. It's still not that long, though, but we have had a lot of memories together. He is more athletic than I am. He often teased me since I did not know how to do a serve in volleyball. I mean, it's not my thing.

People often ask me if I like him, like more than a best friend. Well, I'm not that sure. He seemed like a brother to me. Ever since my older brother died because of an accident, I felt lonely. Yet, Yuuji cheered me up back then. With that, I love his company.

Ring

My phone rang, and I answered the call.

"Hello?" I answered.

"Oi, Y/n-chan! What are you doing?" It was Yuuji.

"Yuuji! Well, I'm about to bake a cake." I told him.

"Really? For me? I'm flattered."

"I always do this. Haha!"

"Anyways, bring the cake with you. I'm throwing a party! Be sure to come at 4!" He excitedly said as I just giggled.

"Alrighty! See you later!"

"See you!" I ended the call.

I went to the kitchen and saw my mom preparing breakfast. I also prepared the ingredients needed for Yuuji's cake.

"Baking a cake for Yuuji, Y/n?" My mom suddenly asked.

"Yup! He'll be having a party at 4." I told her.

"Be safe there. Oh, and y/n?"

"Yeah?"

"Have you ever considered Yuuji more than a best friend?" That question, again.

"Mom... I told you. He's like a brother to me."  Mom still received the same answer to her question, so she went back to what she was doing.

"And done!" I exclaimed as I finished decorating the cake.

I immediately placed it in the fridge. It was already 11 in the morning, so I planned to go to the mall to buy a gift for Yuuji. I found it difficult to choose a gift for him. I mean, he's got everything, I guess.

I was on my way to Yuuji's house. I brought the cake and his gift. As I opened the door, everything seemed normal. There were no decorations, people, and more. It was just normal. I rechecked the time. It was exactly 4. How come no one's here? How come there are no decorations? It seemed like there was no party at all.

I suddenly heard a cough, which made me jolt.

"Yuuji?" I called out his name.

He suddenly came out. He was wearing his house clothes. What was happening? Was there no party at all?

"Yuuji? Who did you invite? There are no decorations at all." I told him as I place the cake and my gift on the coffee table.

My back was facing him as I placed down my stuff. He suddenly embraced me from behind. It took me by surprise because it felt different. Yuuji placed his head on my shoulder, sniffing my neck.

"Yuuj-"

"I love you..." Yuuji muttered.

My heart was beating. I did not know if it was because of the confession, or was I just surprised?

"I love you, y/n. I see you as my lady." He cried. I could feel his tears flowing.

"Yet... you don't feel the same, right?" He hugged me tighter.

I gently pushed his hands away from me. Fortunately, I succeeded, and I turned to look at him. He was definitely down. I don't know how to comfort him.

"Yuuji... I'm-"

"I know. But," He wiped his tears then smiled sadly.

"Can I at least court you? Allow me to change your perspective. If you don't mind." He looked at me.

Yuuji was always like this. He knew what to do. Even if it seemed impossible, he would make it possible. He made me believe that. I think...it would not hurt to give it a try, right?

"Okay, Yuuji. Change my perspective of you. Let me see you as a man more than like a brother."

=======================

"So, there was no party at all?!" I got a bit frustrated.

"Well, no. I planned to confess to you today." He just smirked.

"The fuck, Yuuji? You made my dress to ni-" He suddenly hugged me.

"You know what's better, y/n?" My brows furrowed, curious as to what he's going to say.

"No clothes at all." I could feel his smirk.

I aggressively pushed him away, and he landed on the couch.

"Fuck! Yuuji, stop that!" I aggressively yelled.

"The tone's not right." He chuckled.

"Just! Just shut up!"
