Beautiful Day

My birthday was celebrated, after breakfast. Papa had walked me back to my room, he told me to pick one of my outfits to wear. "Papa will get you a bath ready," he told me before he left to the bathroom. I held my new bear close to me in my arms. I brought myself to my closet, that another step stool for my height to be passable to reach my gowns. "Maybe, you can help me pick out a dress," I told my new bear. "How about I give you a name first. So, that way we can be friends." I stood there at the edge if my closet just with a gaze in my bear's eyes. "Maybe," I asked myself as I slowly paced around my room. I guess the thought of having a friend be there for me silently meant a lot. "Maybe, Hazel," I looked at the bear. I granted the name for the hazel-but fur that covered the small bear. I returned my attention to my closet filled with the colorful gowns. As I climbed my step-stool, I had grabbed for a small blue dress that had white frills on the hem. I remember the time I'd spend just spinning in the dress.

"Monique," I heard Papa at my door. "Your bath is ready, little one." He smiled a little, his outfit had changed to his regular blue bright cloak and red pants. I lay Almond on my bed, so that way he wouldn't have gotten ruined by the bath water. I had picked my dress and made my way to the bathroom. I entered to the marble floor with a tub filled of hot water for my bath. I hung my dress on a robe rack so it could air out, before I entered the tub, I had locked the door so I could have more of a quiet time while I bathe. I removed my night gown and replaced it with a robe that hung on one of the racks. I made my way to the bath tub then stepped down into the major pool sized tub.

I dunk my head into the water, the feeling of the warmth wrapped me into a peaceful state. Once I had finished bathing, I had grabbed a towel from a near by rack and wrapped my body to dry off. After I had fully dried off, I had put on my garments and finished tying the dress on me. It fitted much on me like a glove. The small frills would swirl when I twirled in the dress. I couldn't help but smile when I wore it, Papa would always take me out when I wore this one. I guess, we both liked the dress. I gathered my dirty laundry and made my way back to my room. My hair still was wet, so I'd feel small droplets on my back.

I could tell that the sun would rise soon, it illuminated my room, with a sense of joy. I had placed my clothes into the hamper, then had made my way to my bed and grabbed Almond. I walked out of my room and found Papa in the sitting room. He stood there, with joy, he saw me and held out his hand. "Ready for a great day, mom cheri," he smiled at me as I took his hand. "Yes, Papa," I replied holding Almond close. Before we had left, I had put on my baby blue colored shoes that matched my dress. We made our way to the front door, then we walked our of the gate.

The market was full of people with their families or shopping for groceries. The click of my shoes hitting the cobble ground had matched the rythem of many street performers. They juggled flamed torches, or showed us the many creatures around the world. Papa lead me to the candy store, it was such a rarity that I'd go to the candy store. Papa would always bring me back something from his long day of work, because he doesn't want me ever leaving the house.

Papa let me chose from the many sweet treats that were before me. I picked chocolate covered strawberries, honey dipped apples, and my favorite: Coconut filled chocolates. The sweet taste of them just gave me this sense of wonder. It felt like we were there forever, when Papa had paid for the candy, we walked outside to see the sky painted a sunset gold with a dark lavender. As soon as we got home, Papa had me get dressed in my night gown, he didn't retreat back to his room and change for bed. "Papa, has to go to a meeting tomorrow," he said as we made our way to my bedroom. "But the location is very far, so I have to leave tonight." I climbed into bed with the help of my step stool and lay under my covers. Papa tucked me into my blankets, made sure that Almond was with me. "When you wake up, I'll be gone. But the servants will be here to watch over you. Joline will take you care of you, Monique." He kissed my forehead goodnight, then told me that he'd be back in a few days. I remember Joline, she became my nanny when I first came here. She had dark brown hair, light green eyes, and usually wore this long black skirt and white blouse for her uniform. Joline was my favorite, of the servants. She would always give me this kind smile, never would yell at me, like the others would do when Papa was out of town. I saw Papa head for the door, with the click of the light, he smiled softly and shut the door.

I look at my room, how the moon illuminated it with a white gleam. It was the last thing I saw before I closed my eyes for sleep. By morning, Papa would be gone, but after that, he'd come back home.
