Chapter 1

I was surprised that death wasn't so bad.

It was quicker and more comfortable than falling asleep.

But it sure was boring. Darkness, darkness, darkness... After what felt like an eternity, I could see- and I couldn't believe it- light. Actual light.

Wasn't I dead?

My eyes shot open. I could see the headquarters of Erudite- right where David shot me.

Suddenly, someone shook me.

"Tris, are you okay? How do you feel?"

It was Caleb.

"Wh-what? Caleb? Why am I alive? How am I alive?! Wha-"

"Whoa, calm down, Tris! I- um- invented a revival serum. It took me about two years. But that was worth it! You're alive, Tris! You're alive!"

I couldn't believe it. I couldn't believe everything that I was still breathing and that my heart was beating right now.

And most surprising of all, that I forgave Caleb.

I stood up, wanting to smell the fresh air outside.

"Let's go, Caleb. I don't want to be in this room anymore, where I died."

Caleb nodded and beckoned me to follow him.
