Chapter 10

I try to get over it. But I can't. Today is just another normal Dauntless day.

Breakfast, training. Lunch, training. Dinner, training. And sleep.

Eat. Train.Eat.Train.Eat.Train. And sleep.Eat. Train.Eat.Train.Eat.Etrain. And sleep.

I train a lot, since it gets me distracted, so I don't think about Will. When I think about him, he reminds me of Al.

The one who nearly killed me, like Will, the one who betrayed me, also like Will.

Suddenly, Christina runs toward me.

"TRIS!!!!" she screams.

"WILL! WILL ESCAPED!!"

"What the F*CK?! LET'S GO CHA$E HIM, THEN!"

I panic. I grab a gun from under my bed and run outside.

I turn around to Tobias' room, but wait- he's dead.

Sobbing, I run to the Fence and ask the guards:

"Hey! Guys! Have you seen Will?!"

One of the guards replies.

"Uh... no. We would've caught him if he was running this way. Maybe try using the secret way."

"The secret way?" I ask.

He opens a maintenance hole right next to him.

"Here," he says.

I climb down. Further down. Into total darkness. After what seems like 10 minutes or so, my foot finally touches the ground.

Suddenly, I hear movement behind me. A guy with a black hoodie greets me.

"Hello, Tris," he says creepily.

He's a boy about my age. Judging by his face, he hasn't slept in a while.

I hold on tight to my gun.

"Who- who are you?" I ask.

"I am Player. The government's most talented hacker and soldier," he says.

"Wh- what? What do you mean? There's no government anymore..." I say, shocked.

"Don't you get it? This whole world is an experiment. Your code name is Ex. N35-45/av5. Will's code name is Ex. Z66-89/ge4.

And I don't have a code name, since I work in the government," he says, sounding annoyed.

Something suddenly ignites in my chest. All of this was for nothing? NOTHING?!

"You... you liar!" I scream. I fire my gun.

Player couldn't have survived this attack. I'm halfway to climbing the ladders when a voice stops me.

"Oh no, Tris. You just made a big mistake," Player says.
