Love: tormentum

Chapter 2

Wei Wuxian could see that Wangji was trying hard not to hurt any of his elders seriously. He again looked at Wei ying who was sitting unperturbed by the events happening in front of him.

Wei Wuxian was seriously upset with the situation as he had no power over whatever was happening. He had never felt so desperate in any situation. He would always interfere whenever he felt something was wrong or when he wanted to protect someone. But this was a maddening situation for him. He could do nothing but watch as Wangji defeated the clan elders one by one. He wished Lan Xichen would do something and looked over to him. Xichen looked extremely pained and Wuxian could see tears in his eyes. Wuxian thought back to the time when the older Lan had chastised him at the GuanYin temple about his ignorance regarding Wangji's feelings. Wuxian couldn't blame Xichen. In fact he was quite lenient on him considering whatever was happening in front of him.
" Lan Zhan, when could I ever be worthy of your love?" Wuxian thought woefully.

Wangji had defeated all the elders by then who were splayed down on the floor in various positions. Some of them were trying to get up. Qiren couldn't contain his anger at all and walked out like a tornado. Xichen hung his head and almost suppressed a sob. This was the first time Wuxian had seen him so emotional.
Wangji looked at his brother and said," Brother, please forgive me for this insolence. I will come and take my punishment later."
Xichen exhaled heavily and asked," Wangji, what have you done? What will we do now?"
Wangji looked determined and there was a glint in his eyes when he said," I should have done this before. I so wish I had done this earlier. I should have believed him before. I just hope I am not late."
Wangji looked morosely at Wei ying who was still sitting with his head down.
Xichen took a heavy breath again and said," Fine Wangji, do what you seem correct. I will wait for you at cloud recess."
Xichen slowly moved towards the elders and helped them get up and they slowly filed out of the cave.
Wei Wuxian was getting extremely anxious. He watched as Wangji slowly lowered himself on the ground near Wei ying and again started coaxing him. Wuxian couldn't watch anymore. This had become a nightmare. A real nightmare that he would change given a chance. Even though he had heard what had happened he couldn't fathom what it felt to see it transpire in front of you. He was starting to feel suffocated.
"This dream is gonna end soon. This dream is gonna end soon.", he started muttering to himself.
Suddenly Lan Wangji got up. Wuxian became alert of his movements and couldn't help thinking that even in this stressful situation his Hanguang-jun was an epitome of grace.
Lan Wangji bent towards Wei ying and said," Wei ying, I have to go to cloud recess. I will come back after taking my punishment. Wait for me here please."
Wuxian felt the blood drain from his face. Even though Wei ying, who was sitting there with apparently no change in expression, knew what was about to happen, Wuxian knew it very well. His life was about to end. Wuxian felt a sudden urge to stop Wangji. He wondered what Wangji would do if he knew what would happen when he left.
Wuxian couldn't help feel whether this dream was a purgatory for him, to absolve his sins suffering, watching his husband in pain.
Lan Wangji slowly started walking towards outside and Wuxian followed him. Wangji walked towards a nearby tree, unsheathed his Bichen and started cutting and shaving off a few low hanging branches. He collected them together and started carrying them back into the cave with Wuxian following.

Lan Wangji placed them near Wei ying and started a fire. He leaned in and placed his hand on Wei Ying's cheek and said," Wei ying, wait for me here. I will come soon."
Wuxian was crying freely now. He knew his Lan Zhan would never see this Wei ying again. He desperately wanted to do something to stop his husband but he knew he couldn't. This must be my punishment for any wrongs I might have committed he thought. To watch everything go downhill and not be able to do anything.
Lan Wangji moved towards the entrance of the cave and looked back again at Wei ying, but he showed no movement. Wangji sighed and started out of the cave and Wei Wuxian followed him miserably.
