I stretched when the alarm went off before I got up, Jett followed me as we both walked downstairs then I let him out the back door. I saw the happiness radiating from me as I showered and changed for work, then collected everything I needed for the day, put food down for Jett before we went into the office. I toasted a bagel, grabbing a cup of coffee and sat at the counter looking over my planner for the rest of the summer. When Jett finished eating we both headed out the front door, locking it then he got in the passenger side after I opened the door and I went around to the driver's side. The caretaker was pulling in the gate as I was pulling out, we nodded to each other in passing then I turned for down town and the start of my week. People feel a routine gets boring but not me, in this line of work, boring means quiet time, no life threatening issues or drama so I enjoy my boring routine immensely. The security guys smiled as I smirked walking past them with Jett by my side, buzzers going off then quickly being silenced, people milling around in the foyer as we went to the elevator and got on for my floor.
Sam nodded to me since he was on a call, handing me an espresso as I chuckled when I stopped to check any messages he laid on the counter. My schedule with all my kids now set in a routine so each day I saw at least two of them as they checked in and filled me in with any new things happening. I opened my office door greeting Tony the regular officer at my door and we chatted a bit about how our weekends went. After setting my things in the desk drawer or on top of my desk, Jett laid in his corner as I leaned against the window sill looking out over the LA skyline. Sam knocked then opened the door and smiled as I grinned at him asking how his weekend was, he told me his fiance and him had a great time, then he handed me a wedding invitation. I chuckled saying “ Never thought I'd see the day you beat me to the alter Sam.” Sam laughed answering “ Yea well I never thought I'd find my love, figured to be a single guy till I died.” I chuckled more shrugging when Sam asked how my weekend with Nolan went. He smirked as I told him the whole story, he then said “ He loves you boss, make him work for your affections though because he needs the character building after your past history with him.” I laughed replying “ And I though guys stuck together, fooled me.” He shrugged smiling then went back to his desk to answer the phone that went off as I sat behind my desk and shuffled paperwork, finishing off the reports Sam had laid there yesterday.
I turned on the radio and hummed along with the music as I worked on paperwork, then Sam buzzed me saying he was heading out for lunch early. I told him to enjoy his lunch as I went back to filing the finished reports, I looked up to hear someone knock and smiled when Nolan walked in with to go boxes in his hand. He set the boxes on my desk after he pushed the papers to the side, leaned over and kissed my lips softly making me lean into him while he deepen our kiss. As we broke apart he smiled softly saying “ Now that makes my day better.” I blushed pecking his lips again asking“ Rough day handsome?” , when he shrugged and set out the Chinese food on two plates, tossing Jett a huge rib bone then answering “Kinda busy for the middle of the week, my investigation into the corruption is gaining ground though, Lex I'm amazed with all I have dug up.”
I raised an eyebrow as he told me some things my dad had mentioned before he passed away so I put my two cents in and gave Nolan more to think about, different avenues to pursue. He did mention that Dean came here for recruiting but also had a part in Nolan's investigation, saying that the FBI has a file on what's going on here. Nolan told me that next week he has to go back to DC for some meeting with a head guy about what he has so far, I sighed making him look at me saying “ Only a few days Lex, then when I get back you and I have a dinner date with my parents, they are dying to see you again baby.” I nodded softly answering “ I miss them handsome, they and my folks were so close before everything changed.” Nolan glanced down at my desk and chuckled making me tilt my head he said “ So Sam is getting married.” I smiled replying “ Yea can you imagine it, he beat me to the alter that bum.” Nolan chuckled with a nod then his pager went off so he helped me clean off my desk before kissing me goodbye and going back to the station.
