The pod was quiet.

No one knew where to start with each other, so they all stayed in their seats or walked aimlessly around the small ship. Some picked out funky hats from a bin that came with them.

Corpse didn't know what to do, or think. Going to space with a group of strangers would be fun, right? Getting to travel the stars, fix up the rest of the ship, right? Sounds great!

... Right?

The man bounced his leg. His suit was a deep black, almost as dark as his hair. Along with a few other crewmates, he decided to layer a tuxedo over his suit. Why the hell not?

His eyes were trained on the floor, as he wasn't ready to make awkward eye contact with anyone yet. He moved to scratch his nose before his hand was stopped by his helmet.

God, this stupid-

He wrinkled his nose a few times to get rid of the itch. His leg bouncing became immense, and more rapid. A few of the others in the ship have started to talk to each other, some even laughing. Corpse wished he had the social capacity to even begin a conversation.

"Hi there!"

Looks like he didn't have to.

He looked up only to be met by a man in a strikingly bright lime suit. There was a stem with a few leaves sprouting from it on his head. Corpse offered a friendly smile to the other, standing to shake his hand.

"Hi," he said. The other man tensed as soon as Corpse spoke, his eyebrows shooting up in surprise.

"Oh," he breathed. "Your voice!"

Corpse blinked. "My v- Oh, my voice! Yeah," he half-chuckled. "I.. get that a lot." Not that having an unnaturally deep voice gets you weird looks in public, or that you get looked at with scared eyes or anything. No sir.

He squinted at the other man's name tag, which read Sykkuno. How do you pronounce that?

"I bet," the other replied. "My name is Sykkuno." Oh. Just like it's spelled.

"Well, hi Sykkuno. I'm Corpse."

Sykkuno nodded, "Nice to meet you then, Corpse!"

"Likewise," he replied. Oh, too soon-

Sykkuno brought up a hand in front of the glass of his helmet, as if to cover his mouth. He chuckled a little. "We have a humble one here, I see."

Corpse's mouth curled into a small smile. "Very."

"You should pick out a hat from the bin," Sykkuno suggested. "They're fashionable."

Corpse looked over to where the bin sat. A few people were gathered around it. One in a brown suit picked out what seemed to be bear ears, and another in a red suit picked devil horns. The last one lingering over there was in a bright cyan suit, with a tuxedo layered over it, and had picked out a dark fedora.

Promising.

Corpse looked back to Sykkuno. "Maybe I will. The plant on your head looks neat."

"Thanks," he replied. "Glad to have you onboard, Corpse!"

With a small wave, the lime man walked away. Corpse watched for a moment longer as he went toward another group of crewmates.

Corpse went to the bin. Inside were still plenty of hats, some of them silly or genuine. As he sifted through them, he could feel eyes on him.

As he picked up a pair of ram horns, he looked to see the person in a brown suit looking at him curiously. Just as he was about to greet them, they spoke instead.
