THE MARTEL FAMILY HISTORY;
The Martels are direct descendants of Charles Martel, King of the Franks, whose great-grandchildren migrated to the Kingdom of England in the 11th century to attend Hogwarts. As such, they are a well-established family within the magical community. Enid's family, the Benwicks, are descendants of Rowena Ravenclaw.
Traditionally, the Martels and Benwicks were placed in Ravenclaw. However, both Elaine and Evaine were placed in Gryffindor, and their brother Lance followed suit a few years after.
