“Hope, its such a weird feeling. It defies all logic in a situation. When there is no reason to believe that anything good will happen. Hope just seems to peak. Until that hope is fulfilled, or as it slowly gets crushed with the realization of the situation.” This is what I thought as I sat in the cold, wet floor of a basement. “Its funny,” I thought to myself as the water slowly crescendos in speed of the flooding,”I’ve always believed in hope. I never thought for one second in my life that something is hopeless, but unfortunately I now know the truth. I am going to drown very slowly In this water.
I woke up and I couldn’t remember what my dream was about. Sweat was beating down my neck.
I thought to myself,”It doesn’t matter, its not important.” I started to get ready for school. My cat,Judith, was hungry so I quickly fed her cat food.I grabbed my slick, heavy backpack and thought to myself,”Why is it so heavy.” then I remembered,” Oh yeah I had a load of homework from being sick from the flu.” It seemed like a pack of students were sick to, because my teachers said that almost no one was at school.
The hardest part of the homework was the math. We are onto variables on both sides of the equation. It’s stupid, I’ll never use this out of school. As I headed for the door my mom called to me and said, “Stacy don’t forget your lunch.”
I replied, “ Oh thanks.” I ran to the fridge and quickly opened the door, I didn’t want to be late for the bus, and I grabbed my lunch. Then I opened my door. I saw a fleet of birds in the sky. I heard the birds’ chirps through the trees. Then I saw a plane overhead. I ran to the bus stop and waited.
When I arrived at my school I looked at the breath taking view of my school’s scenery. Next to my school, On the ride side of the front entrance, is a lake. There is a little dock on the lakeside, and it is mostly used by fishermen in the summer. Looking at the lakeside next to the luscious grassland was a site to see.
I quickly ran up the steps of my school and met up with my friends, which looked like a big herd of people. Then we all hurried to class. The first class,my least favorite one, math was up next. I sit next to the teachers desk. My teacher,Mr. Halverson is a short man with brown/black hair with a small muchaste. Mr. Halverson's school landline suddenly rang so he went to go pick it up. He went to go answer it.When he picked it up his expression turned into a solemn one, but then he quickly changed it back.
I could hear the conversation and this is what I heard,”Package---hear---careful---don’t drop--tonight at 12---boat dock---make sure---Deathbolt---,” that was all I heard. Once I heard the last word I knew something sinister was going on.Deathbolt.
Deathbolt had been in the news a day or so earlier and allegedly it is this gun or thing that can vaporize anything it touches. A scientist going by the name of John Melarch has said he invented it, however no evidence of this device has been produced. Not even a patent in the patent office. Ever since he made the announcement he hasn’t been seen since.
After Mr. Halverson hung up the phone I thought to myself, “Why would he be involved with ‘Deathbolt’.” Then I was thinking to myself that if I told the police they probably wouldn’t believe me. So I decided that after school in night I would investigate this mystery.
Later that day I was at my house just watching T.V when it was time for bed. I set my alarm for 11:30 P.M,and I went to sleep. When the alarm went off I quickly shut it off so no one else would hear it. I quickly got dressed as quietly as possibly. I said goodbye to Judith, grabbed my binoculars just in case, and headed for the door.
When I opened the door I felt the cool, dry air and it felt nice. I started down the road.
When I arrived at the lake it was 11:50. It had taken me 10 minutes to get to the lake.
