"She's gone loony!" Quinten spoke up.
The space had been quiet until that moment. The trees swayed to the soft morning melody as the sun rose to her home in the sky. The cotton candy clouds of the cool fall morning slowly crawled across the sky. The small crowd that gathered outside the main house had stilled their movements, as Sarah spoke to the head of the estate.
"She's not crazy." Joe defended his best friend, "Sarah must have a reason for believing what she does." His eyes looked to the woman.
"Sarah?" Liam placed a hand gently on her thin frame.
"Liam, I know what I am saying! She's the one!" Sarah's gray eyes moved from her beloved and back to their hostess. "Will you confirm or deny it?"
"I don't think now is the time for speculations." The tall man moved gracefully between Sarah and Ada, his eyes moving to the woman. "Ada, why don't you take the girls to the kitchen?" His words came as a suggestion, no force or challenge. It was obvious in his tone that he respected this woman and held high views of her.
"Wonderful idea." Ada smiled politely, "Sarah? Nichole? Will you join me in the kitchen? I am sure these males are hungry."
"Of course." Nichole spoke up, her eyes piercing Sarah's.
Sarah only nodded, her brow furrowed in thought as she followed behind Ada into the house.
The door clicked shut gently and Ada released a deep breath. "Now, we will talk in privacy while we make the morning meal, yes?" Her tone gave no room to decline the invitation.
"Yes, ma'am." Both girls replied in unison, the sudden realization of authority she carried settling into their souls.
"Now, Sarah, please gather the eggs from the counter and begin cracking them." She pointed to the bucket of eggs near the kitchen sink. "Nichole, please get the bacon from the fridge and place it on the broiler pan. I'd like it ready for the oven shortly."
"Yes, ma'am." Nichole spoke and quickly began to move.
"Wait..." Sarah stood confused. "I thought we were talking?"
"As long as you are doing a task to help with breakfast, I will answer any question you may have." Ada smiled to the she-wolf and then pointed in the direction of the eggs once more.
With a sigh Sarah moved to begin cracking eggs. Out of the corner of her left eye, she watched as Ada dressed herself with an apron and began pulling ingredients and utensils from several cupboards. Her attention turned back to cracking eggs and putting their contents into the bowl in front of her. Her mind racing with questions.
"You can ask anything." Ada spoke, as she measured flour into a bowl.
"Are you my aunt?" Sarah tried to speak boldly, her hands focusing on cracking eggs.
"Distantly, yes." Ada continued to measure out ingredients.
"So you two are related? How?" Nichole chimed in, the sound of butcher paper shuffling about the stove in front of her.
"Well," Ada took in a deep breath and slowly released it. "Sarah's mother, is the daughter to my sister."
"So, you're really my great-aunt?" Sarah turned slightly to see the woman's face.
Ada didn't speak, only met her gaze and nodded slowly. Her eyes shifted and again she nodded toward the eggs, and smiled as Sarah turned quickly and went back to her task.
"Are you my aunt as well?" Nichole asked cautiously.
Sarah's head whipped around to her friend and then to the woman.
